Definitely Benjamin Thompson, whom I profiled here. Hey, I’d even write it if a studio/TV company asked me!

Edward Cope and O.C. Marsh. Two men who started off on friendly terms, but their relationship descended into a lifelong obsessive rivalry which eventually ruined them both. Due to their many conflicts they made major contributions to the emergent field of Paleontology and greatly raised public interest in dinosaurs.
For a short documentary on this subject see PBS American Experience: Dinosaur Wars.

Aaron Burr
Mary Grace Quakenbos
I’m fairly amazed that I hadn’t even heard of Mary Grace Quackenbos—wow, what a story. Incredible that no one has made a movie or miniseries about her. Or about Burr, especially in light of the Hamilton craze. Just call it Aaron Burr, like that John Adams miniseries… Hey, start it right after the duel, make it about the out-west conspiracy. Even throw in some elements from Gore Vidal’s Burr. I think it would be grand. As for Holmes, I think I remember hearing that Scorsese and DiCaprio are doing a movie from Devil in the White City.

Don't know if Dicaprio is still attached.

Just found out about this guy, but someone has to do a movie or miniseries about Otto Skorzeny, a Waffen-SS colonel who commanded the forces deposing Hungarian regent Miklós Horthy and freeing Mussolini, was acquitted of war crimes, advised Nasser, and eventually ended up working for, believe it or not, Mossad! Unbelievable story.

I'd love to see a good film adaptation of Vidal's Burr, but I'm betting it won't happen--although the Hamilton craze might spark one. But without Gore behind it in some fashion I'm guessing it would end up a Hollywood hot mess. Jawaharlal Nehru would be a fascinating figure for an epic bio-drama. Might be difficult to cast, though. I recall the late Ian Richardson giving a fine semblance of him (the physical resemblance was uncanny) in the UK mini Mountbatten: The Last Viceroy; can't really think of anyone in the present day who'd fit the part.

Heinz Guderian - Military Shostakovich - composer Joaquin Murieta - bandit The Genna Brothers - bootleggers & murderers Machine Gun Jack McGurn - gangster Ambrose Bierce - author and US Civil War veteran Another filmworthy musical figure would be Wilhelm Furtwaengler, a master conductor whose legacy was tarnished by his decision to remain in Germany under the Hitler regime, rather than join the exodus of artistic figures fleeing the country at that time. He maintained in his own defence that he was staunchly anti-Nazi, but stayed in the hopes of helping to use his influence to curb Nazi excesses. Although he has many defenders, there are many others who don't accept his rationales for remaining, and controversy followed him throughout his life and long after his death. Bierce would be a wonderful figure for a good filmed bio, and one would hope for a better portrayal of him than the one given by Gregory Peck in the decidedly silly Old Gringo.

hmmm, didn't know that about Gregory Peck. Bierce was also portrayed in one of the "Dusk Till Dawn" sequels played by Michael Parks...
And for those who do not know this; The Ambrose Bierce short story "Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" was made into a Twilight Zone episode and was the only TZ episode to win an Academy Award for short subject. Not surprisingly, the episode takes place during the US Civil War.

There was a movie about Furtwängler:

I'd add Pierre Teilhard de Chardin to my list. His theories seem...dubious today but I think just his life story that combined scientific adventurism with mysticism and Catholicism would make an interesting program.
