Yeah....so excited not. I thought this was announcing Paul Verhoeven would direct the sequel he talked about a few years ago.

So this is a reboot or continuation of the original, classic Robocop?

Eh I'd rather have Blomkamp do something more...original . but I'll give this a chance at least . Hopefully it won't be overly preachy(like some of Blomkamp's previous works) . just give us a hard R Robocop sequel!

Why all the backlash? I think it has potential to be good (if not great). By the title, it sounds like they'll go back to the original, which would be really cool.

So this is a reboot or continuation of the original, classic Robocop? This will be a Sequel to the original, ignoring the Sequels.

Mainly cause Blomkamp peaked with District 9. He was hailed to be one of the greatest directors ever after only one movie. Then Elysium came out and while it got good reviews,it ended up just being an ok movie. Finally Chappie came out and well...yeah. I think an official Robocop sequel is awesome, but i think the Robocop franchise has been tarnished by the 3rd movie and remake (remake I actually enjoyed sorry) and it’s just hard to get excited for this when most likely it’ll be very watered down since yet again it has to be politically correct which was not what the originals were.

I'm not much familiar with Blomkamp and his films, so I wasn't certain on the commotion. There is still potential for another great film in the franchise, like with most series. Yeah, 3 sucked and the remake was pretty meh, but I kinda enjoyed 2.

I'm concerned that it's going to try to be too much like the original film and end up feeling like a carbon copy just to please fans that love the 1987 version and don't like the 2014 remake.

Blomkamp made some interesting shorts but a feature film director he is not. He leans more towards comedy and has been pushed into "serious" or semi-serious and it just doesn't work. District 9 got massive corporate marketing support--It was compared to 2001, Star Wars, Robocop. It got a best adapted screenplay nomination--so many better sci-fi film writers did not. Funny that he said he didnt want to be known as "that District 9 guy" and yet all his standalone films sucked so now he is chasing any kind of franchise brand he can. If he is not writing maybe it will help some, but even Robocop is a dead franchise. Come to think of it, the one idea that may actually work would be to adapt Robocop vs Terminator.

We heard stories like this before with other movie franchises, and the movies haven't lived up to the hype...
I have a bad feeling that this one is just going to be another flop as well...
But, if they can convince Nancy Allen to come out of acting retirement to play Officer Anne Lewis again, even if it is just a small part...
I'll give it a chance.

Get Peter weller to come back and play Robocop....oh wait no let’s not do that. Because that worked out so well for Crystal Skull and Force Awakens.

Blomkamp made a communist movie with cyborgs before this (Elysium) so he's an incredibly good fit for Robocop.

The Robocop and Total Recall reboots failed to perform at the box office, because they attempted to pander to a wider audience with the PG-13 ratings. It backfired on them. While I do enjoy them, they could have both been so much better, if they were hardcore violent. If this new one is going for an 'R', I will happily see it and will reserve any other judgment or discernment over the production of it until it comes out. I don't think the level of violence was the problem in those 2 movies. I think it was the bland and forgettable writing.

Not really a fan of Blomkamp’s work, outside of his debut effort, but it’s an interesting choice and I would give it a shot.

Im excited for this. I think Blomkamp should have directed the last Alien/Prometheus movie instead of Scott. Now he gets his chance to take on a popular Hollywood IP, lets see what he can produce of it.
