I have a reasonable argument for that. Saying trans actors are the only ones who should play trans characters would be like saying: Only gay actors can play gay characters Only straight actors can play straight characters Only Chinese actors can play Chinese charactersOnly 17 yr old actors can play 17 yr old characters etc. All this really does is encourage discrimination and exclusivity in the movie industry, not reduce it. Besides, how many trans actors are there in the world? There's going to be a very limited talent pool for that kind of specification. To be fair, Brad Pitt would make a strange looking Chinese guy. Seriously though, I think I covered all of that in my comments. I agree with you but it still doesn't change the simple fact that currently, trans actors surely have limited options available to them; and this role is tailor made for a trans actor. That's all haunted knight was saying. Sometimes they get Japanese actors to play Chinese characters. Or they get a Eurasian (with their Asian half probably not Chinese) to play a Chinese character. As for trans, are we talking transgender or transsexual? I don't see why a transgender actor would have trouble landing a role as long as their talent qualifies for it. As for transsexual actors, I admit I don't know of any. Theoretically, it shouldn't be any different for them to apply for a character whom they physically resemble or can play the part... but I admit there's probably going to be some discrimination there. Still, there's a big difference between encouraging trans actors to play trans roles... and outright telling someone they can't play a role because they aren't trans.

Kind of off-topic but related: I think this guy has the most hilarious film career ever. He has essentially played every non-white ethnicity imaginable. www.imdb.com/name/nm0193295/?ref_=tt_cl_t6

Look the film is based on a real life person, a Pittsburgh native. He's not a fictional character like Batman or Spider-Man.
I don't get why it's so controversial about wanting someone who is actually transmen to play a transmen.

I’d certainly imagine that there likely would’ve been just a tad less controversy if the person Scarlett Johansson was playing happened to be fictional, just like the character Jared Leto played in DBC.

One of the most talked about is Chaz Bono he's actually not a bad actor.

Star Power can be a bitch sometimes. Not that I am referring to this movie but maybe Star Power should not be a factor in casting

i mean.....all this will probably lead to people saying "only women can direct women, only black people can direct black people" and it sounds like..... "nicer" version of segregation We're already there. Imagine how ballistic people would go if some white guy directed Black Panther 2. Or if a man directed the Black Widow movie.

Unpopular opinion: I see where they're coming from. It is taking a possible job from a trans actor. Can trans actors only play trans people?

www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-44829766"Avengers star Scarlett Johansson was set to play play 1970s Pittsburgh crime boss Dante "Tex" Gill, who was born Jean Gill, in Rub & Tug.
But she was criticised by those who said the role should have gone to a transgender actor."The damn LGBT community practically bullied her out of the role. That community is pure cancer. They complain because they aren't represented well but when a A list actor joins a movie about the subject then that isn't good enough either. Now the movie won't get a A list star and hopefully won't even be made or if it does then it'll bomb anyway and then they'll just cry more about that. This is why Hollywood shouldnt even bother representing this group. Imagine the outrage they'd cause if they were told straight characters can only be played by straight actors. Horrible, lowlife and bullying community. At least she has the Black Widow movie. Poor Scarlett. So true! They're basically digging their own graves by trying to boycott ScarJo. The movie would obviously tank if a trans actor played, not because they're new to the industry, but cause no one would bat an eye if an A-list celeb isn't in it.

Fair enough. Still, I just don't like it when an actor/actress gets bullied out of a role, regardless of whatever reason people have for hating on them for that role. I may not always agree with the casting choice but forcing an actor out of an already landed role is just a low blow. I hated the casting of Finn Jones as Ironfist as soon as it was announced but I still felt bad for him when people started telling him to give-up the role to have it recast. Same with Scarjo here.

Oh I agree, she shouldn't have gotten that much hate. I don't support the harassment. If the film does end up being cancelled, the toxic response definitely back fired on them.
