Of tired action movie tropes. Guns conveniently jamming and an overabundance of coincidences. Uninspired would describe the screenwriting.
It really was. There was no spark at all to the script. I thought they were taking the character in a lesbian direction given that look between her and her opponent at the start, but it was never mentioned again. The writing of Lara was uneven. She was getting her ass kicked, but yet she's a champ with a bow and arrow. Every single thing in the movie was done a million times before, and often better. Except maybe the pointless fox and hounds bike chase...
I don't blame the rando playing the villain, but the character was absolutely cardboard and banal. And then the insult on top of injury - introducing the trademark guns in a throwaway end credits scene.
I can't decide if Vikander is right for the role or not. I wasn't encouraged by what I saw.

Wait, what? People can be good at some things and not others. In fact, I think that describes everyone on Earth...
I thought Vikander was the best thing about it, personally. And I tend to think she's an overrated actress.
It started off okay but dropped off quite a bit later in the movie.
3/10 (failure)

I'm suddenly worried about that Uncharted movie. Both that and Tomb Raider are based off the same tried-and-true premise that worked so well for the Indiana Jones movies and to a lesser extent, the Mummy series (1999-2008). That it's based off a video game shouldn't be an obstacle for making it good. Yet something seems to always make that a reason.

Dull script, boring "character development", uninspired direction, starts like cheap British thriller, set pieces just copied from the game. Also they could have cast Dakota Blue Richards, Tallulah Riley or Sophie Rundle instead.

I thought it was okay, but it took too long for Lara to become the Tomb Raider and her physical skill set at times seemed too underdeveloped, at times inexplicably too advanced. They should have gotten into the meat of the story quicker, and they should have given Lara a better background for the skills she would need.
The beginning also oddly seemed like we were going to get a Dark Angel film.
I did like it overall, but I preferred the Angelina Jolie films.
I feel like that the people who went into seeing this movie never played the rebooted games. Alicia is very similar to the rebooted Lara. If you had played the rebooted games you would have seen that Lara is very different in them and is not the bad ass she once was. She also never got her dual pistols until close to the end of the first game so of course it makes sense she didn’t have them here.
If you haven’t played the rebooted games i’d suggest you do.

There was no excuse to remake the reboot into a film, they could have made a good film instead.

The reboots are great games. Why not make them into a movie?

Agreed on all fronts. It starts out goofy, gets flat out boring and never does anything remotely interesting. Vikander is a good actress but she doesn't have the natural charisma to play an action hero.
