Maybe Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The first is admittedly a classic, but it might have been better off just staying a one off. Does anyone rate it as a franchise, though?

Friday the 13th. I own the original, and there's a couple sequels that are pretty good, but FFS, how many did we need?

Paranormal Activity. I actually like 2 and 3 but the others are not so good. I didnt think the first was scary at all.

From the way fans go on about how well thought out and philosophical it is, I'd say Saw. There's also only two and a half decent entries in the franchise.

Damn, I'm a fan of tons of horror franchises, it's hard for me to say which is the most overrated. I guess I'll go with Paranormal Activity as well.

Well evidently they thought it would be a good idea to mane a shitty remake after 11 of them. Somehow, after making as many of those god damn things as they had, nobody felt the urge to get Friday the 13th part 13. The most obvious fucking marketing move ever and they didn't get there.

Hard to think of any franchise as overrated in the horror genre. These movies always seem to get trashed as is so that even the best horror films are written off by ‘critics’.
But one I’d say hardly deserves its following is Paranormal Activity.

Wrong Turn. I see so much love for the sequels and I can't understand why. They are badly made films. And the inbreeds keep getting worse.

Friday The 13th, the first one and second one are okay...then it got old real fast and they kept making them and making them.
The Saw series drew too much attention and got old real fast too.

I think probably all the horror franchises are overrated.
Just about all of them ride on the coat tails of a good or decent original movie and systematically run it's concept into the ground. Most horror franchises are populated with an abundance of really bad movies.
The fact that they are a franchise is the very problem for me. It's formulaic repetition ahead of art and creativity with the primary motivation mainly being to grind out more revenue from a successful idea by simply recycling it over and over.
There are lots of Horror movies that I'm a fan of........but there's not a single franchise I'm a fan of.

Even 2, which everyone loves, was torture to get through. Just dumb, dumb, dumb. I saw the third and parts of the fourth and wish I could get that time back. The original is still a fine film by itself.

Any horror film that makes an impact ends up with a franchise that gets run into the ground. It's all personal taste after that. I love the Saw films because I love Jigsaw and his story, but if the character doesn't intrigue you, then Saw is pretty much cheap torture porn.
