Check out MovieMb.com as an alternative to this and IMDB. It's independently ran (No ProBoards), has individual boards for individual movies, and is looking to add hundreds of movie boards daily. It also has a a movie board request form for those who want to talk about a movie, but don't yet see it.
Not sure what the future of this site will be, but it never hurts to sign up and try a couple different ones as we wait and see where the dust settles from the IMDb crash.

It's good to have good alternatives but personally I wasn't thrilled about the 'Community guidelines', so I had to avoid it. I think admin has better long term thoughts about all this. If this site goes down, we all regroup via twitter, facebook or some other means. It seems to me the general sentiment is to stay put right here.

Do you mind me asking what part you weren't thrilled with? Do you have those same issues with the community guidelines of ProBoards?

In a general sense I don't like any place where my sense of expression is limited. Even if the proboards guidelines were the same as yours, then it wouldn't make sense to me to double the hassle and go to two such places. I won't examine those guidelines here in detail, but what I quickly perceived reading through it is that "you'd best behave or else you're out". Of course, exactly what this 'behavior' is, remains at the sole discretion of the guys in charge there. I can see people getting kicked out of there just because a discussion got heated and one of the parties chose to feel "offended". Good luck with politics forums or with threads which try to discuss "controversial issues" through debate or simple conversation.

That kind of general language is going to be found on any site you post on. Some sort of structure needs to be in place other otherwise you have people who take advantage of the system and then say, "Well you never said I couldn't". Guidelines are what give moderators the ability to delete trolls who just want to come on there and be disruptive, and I don't mean disruptive such as getting in non-sensical arguments, but rather doing something as stupid as posting "tits" 800 times in a thread just to kill the discussion and push the good posts down. general lanuage like like that isn't to stop people from getting butt hurt over sensitive topics, but rather to give the mods a fall back to point to when someone does something really agregious that ruins the board for everyone.

I understand your point of view, but from my standpoint that's exactly where the problem is, because those structures you speak of make the 'moderators' decision-making very subjective and most of the time arbitrary. Just as you said it, those structures are placed against those who would abuse the system, but they are an unnecessary and unwelcome burden for those of us who wouldn't abuse it. It is an unjust line of reasoning because it makes the many pay a consequence for the few, and it is equivalent to oppressing everyone preemptively for the possible future misconduct of some individuals. Furthermore, those kinds of structures you speak of are the ones which allow your 'moderators' to take advantage of the system and then say "well the rules say that I can".
