Falling off a roof. I am lucky I only ended up on crutches for a while and didn't break my neck.

One day I came home early from work and found my husband crying hard and writing out a suicide note. What did you do? I called our local mental health provider and set up an appointment for my husband. I watched him all day and night until our appointment. We talked to a therapist, and he recommended a trip to a mental hospital. I resisted at first, until the therapist asked my husband point blank what he wanted to do. He said he wanted to go. I cried, but he was transported there. It has been an ongoing struggle for him to find the right medicine and dosage, but he knew there was something wrong and he wanted to get better. The support of friends and family have been crucial in his progress. His mom is a nurse, so she understands what he is going through. My husband has always been upbeat and positive. To see him crying and writing out a suicide note terrified me.

There have been a few things. Here's a weird one...
Years ago I had a ceiling light fixture in my bedroom that looked like the pic below. It was a rainy evening and I had the light on while I sat in bed reading directly under it. After a while I started to hear what sounded like boiling water. But I couldn't figure it out because no one was in the kitchen boiling anything, so I decided that the sound must have been something else that just sounded like boiling water.
I kept looking around for a while, but still, I couldn't figure it out. Then it dawned on me... I turned off the light and sure enough the boiling water sound stopped.
There was a leak in the ceiling from the rain, and it was going directly into the bowl part of the fixture! It had filled with water and was boiling because of the heat of the light bulb! When I tapped the bowl to test my theory sure enough it was filled with water and hot as a motherf! Electrical wiring was under water!
That thing could have burst from the heat and splashed me with scalding water! It could have started an electrical fire in the ceiling! Any number of things! I was that close...

Back about 10 years ago, I was pulled over by the R.I.D.E. program, which is a checkpoint program put on by the police to crack down on drunk driving.
R.I.D.E. = Reducing Impaired Driving Everywhere (just so you know).
It was a night where I had had 3 beers over the course of about 3 hours. I had been bowling in a league. I did explain to the police that I had had a couple of beers. So, they pulled me aside, and gave me the breathalyzer test. Luckily, I blew under the legal limit for what is allowed for blood alcohol.
I was scared that I would lose my license and have my car impounded. I needed my car and license to get to work.
Honestly, it was a bit of an eye-opener for me. This was because earlier in the bowling season, there were some nights....yeah - I should NOT have been driving.
Now...having said all that....
One would THINK I would have learned my lesson.
Back a few summers ago, after playing baseball, the team would go back to a teammate's house for bevvies. I usually hold myself to 2 beers. However, on this night, I did have 3.
And...of COURSE, on the way home, I was pulled aside by the R.I.D.E. program. Again, luckily, I blew under the legal limit.
To be honest, I was MORE scared this time because I had had the 3 beers in a shorter span of time than the first time.
And, to this day, if I'm ever bowling or playing baseball, I hold myself to 2 beers MAX. In fact, for the nights I'm at bowling, I do have 2 beers - one at the bowling alley, and one when I get home.

I suppose it would be getting hit by a car and breaking a leg, but I was 6 or 7 years old and have no recollection of it. Other than that, nothing major - I guess driving off the road in icy conditions and ending up on a ditch, but I wasn't hurt and there wasn't any damage to the car either (good thing too, as it was my girlfriend's car).

Stopped breathing once actually.
That's not good.
As in having the wind knocked out of you?
That happened to me - luckily only once in my lifetime. Back when I was 10 or 11, trying to climb up on the top bunk of my bunk bed, I lost my grip, and landed with a big THUD.
I couldn't breath for about 30 seconds after that. I feared that was it for me.

That happened to me about 10 years ago. Luckily, the snow bank off to the side of the road was just high enough. Otherwise, I probably would have rolled the car a few times into the field - causing more damage to the car and likely to myself.
