A Ford F150 making a left turnaround as I went through an intersection. 10 more seconds, it'd have slammed into my driver's side and into my lap. For some reason he stopped.

Stopped breathing once actually.
That's not good.
As in having the wind knocked out of you?
That happened to me - luckily only once in my lifetime. Back when I was 10 or 11, trying to climb up on the top bunk of my bunk bed, I lost my grip, and landed with a big THUD.
I couldn't breath for about 30 seconds after that. I feared that was it for me.
Joker's Wilde
as in nearly died during a natural disaster actually.

Just before Christmas 2016 I was taking my mother for groceries, hit black ice and rolled over an embankment. We went nose first, then the car flipped upside down and landed in a stream. The impact crushed the windows and the car was flooded with water. Water and broken glass filled my mouth and nose. We were hanging upside down so I was determined not to drown like this (I'd seen too many movies), so I quickly undid the seat belt. Got my mother out, by now the water subsided, the stream turned out not to be that deep. Car was totalled, and it quickly warmed up outside again. We both had blood pouring down our faces, from the window glass, nothing serious at all. We were fine, but we scared the people who came to help us.

Getting shot on the beach at night. But I was concerned with survival and had little time to be scared. Scarier was driving at 60 miles an hour on the freeway and having my beaks go out and slamming into a stopped car at the exit. Wow.....It must be so thrilling to get shot. I mean leaving aside the immediate danger, it's a thing to remember all your life. Don't recall I ever faced anything like that. touch-wood.

Don't recall I ever faced anything like that. touch-wood. 5 times in the chest and I'm lucky it just hit my lungs not my heart. Nah, the recuperation was a major inconvenience with school and work. Maybe it grounded me though. How old you were then?

The worst that ever happened to me was when I was in Delhi. I was going somewhere in 3-wheeler and the the driver was a Muslim guy keeping Ramzan fast. He looked visibly tired and dehydrated. Somewhere on a bridge he just fell asleep with trucks coming from both sides. For a second I thought it's over but somehow he woke and was able to control the situation.

Yeah, actually slamming into a stopped car going 60 miles an hour was scarier. I dunno, when I was shot, it all happened so fast I didn't even experience much fear. I didn't know you got hit more than once. Was it a feud or a random shooting?

I didn't know you got hit more than once. Was it a feud or a random shooting? We were drinking at night on some isolated beach but apparently it was gang territory. It was random but they were gangsters. Not that I should derail the thread but I do love to know your stance on gun laws. Where do you stand on the issue? You don't need to explain a lot. Just tell us if you want more stricter law or you are fine with existing law?

The moment I realized that my mother's spirit had been taken over by a Cabbage Patch Doll. Things were never the same after that.

Just tell us if you want more stricter law or you are fine with existing law? I want guns to be available for three reasons: 1) hunting 2) protection because criminals will get guns. America is not a small homogeneous society like Sweden. 3) More importantly it's a hedge against the government. So I'm fine with gun laws in the U.S. as they are, regulated but available. Not that I agree with you but thanks for the answer.

A bit of a toss up...
I can't decide whether it was the death of my father when I was 12 or when my son went in for surgery when he was 11.

The moment I realized that my mother's spirit had been taken over by a Cabbage Patch Doll. Things were never the same after that. I can't recall the dolls name. The aspect of the story that is sweet to me, is that your dad bought it for your mother and it was something that she treasured dearly. It was in a sense the gift of a lifetime. That doll perhaps, has helped your mother survive. "Gabbie"!!! Oh, yes, we all love Gabbie dearly. All four of us. It was for sure the gift of a lifetime, and Gabbie is, without a doubt, what has allowed my mother to live and breathe and to manage all those elements that her mother had extinguished in Mom around the time she was four years old. (Gabbie is four years old, you know. Has been since 1981.) Humor and spirit, mostly. I always loved my grammy, and she was very warm and loving towards me, but as an adult part of me has come to hate her for what she did to my mom. My mother is dry as a bone, but get Gabbie to join in, and the whole atmosphere changes. Gabbie is the central heating element in that house. We like Gabbie. Gabbie has spirit. Gabbie is fun.
I wasn't being entirely serious when I said that all this was scary. I wanted to give a response to the post and I was not going to put anything down that was truly scary, because some of that stuff is just way too personal and serious, and even though I do like getting attention, I don't want it to come in the form of dead serious. So Gabbie was a no-brainer. In the end, it is a twisted and very touching (and sometimes amusing) love story. What can I say? My mother is one-third Baby Jane Hudson, and Gabbie you might as well go ahead and describe as a shorter and kinder version of "Mrs. Bates", and you might as well enjoy whatever humor you can find in that.

We were drinking at night on some isolated beach but apparently it was gang territory. It was random but they were gangsters. What is scarier here Gamey—and while you got hit, you were a very lucky fella—is further proof of the frightening gun culture in the US. Having to bring out the firearms and have them actually use them is a terrifying thought. Was it private property, or just open public space claimed as gang territory?
I wrote off my vehicle about 8yrs ago on the motorway. It wasn't my instigation, but due to someone else's actions I ended up losing control to avoid hitting them. I was going to have an accident anyway. My life flashed before my very eyes and I was just waiting for the impact. Oh so lucky that the few of us involved walked out shaken, frustrated and a few minor abrasions\bruises. I wouldn't wish that experience on my worst enemy. I was apprehensive about venturing out on the motorway again for several weeks after.
I've heard that enough times now, that it's obviously a real phenomena. Do you have any recall from any of those few seconds, if not split seconds? Any memory of the details? That whole thing, the life-flashing-before-one's-eyes really does attest to the powers of the human mind and much more than that.

A bit of a toss up... I can't decide whether it was the death of my father when I was 12 or when my son went in for surgery when he was 11. Oh I had no idea you were a father. What was the surgery on? Being operated on scares the hell out of me brah. Luckily I've never had to go to be and hopefully I never will.

He had to have a kidney removed. It was done via keyhole surgery.
The surgery took longer than anticipated. They were some of the longest hours of my life.

I was in a near fatal car accident with my sister driving back home from my grandfather's funeral on the Jersey Turnpike. Some guy hit us from behind. The cop didn't know how my sister and I were still alive. We had a few bumps and bruises as well as neck and back pain.
Years ago, a guy came into a place I used to work at one night and robbed me and my co-worker at gunpoint. He took the money from the cash register as well as our own personal cash and left. Aside from being terrified, we were otherwise unharmed.
