There was a Screenrant article posted a week ago that misinterpreted what Bryan Singer said on Instagram. screenrant.com/x-men-days-future-past-stryker-twist-explained/#leave-commentFirst off, Singer meant that Mystique was saving Logan from drowning to death. Wolverine in the scene right before that even says he was drowning. He means that it never had anything to do with stopping Logan from entering into the Weapon X program. To think that it did is pretty silly considering that Weapon X did not even exist at the time and Mystique never got any insight into future events, besides the Sentinels wiping mutants. There seems to be this common misconception that Trask Industries and the Weapon X program are the same thing because they both involve Styker and use mutant for their own gain. In reality they are two separate entities with different end goals. Trask Industries is a robotics company headed by Bolivar Trask, who wants to use mutant powers to enhance his machines’ capabilities. While Weapon X was a secret government funded program founded by William Styker to use mutants as weapons against other mutants after his wife was killed by their mutant son Jason Styker. Days of Future Past established that Jason had not developed powers and killed his mother yet. Since Styker said that he is almost ten and mutant powers develop during puberty. Trask also mentions that he is eight years from fighting age, pointing out how many of their soldiers were killed during Vietnam, and Styker responses with a worried look on his face. Indicating that he does not want his son to be drafted into a potential war in the future. So Jason has not been imprisoned for killing his mother at this point. So it’s impossible for Mystique to stop Logan from entering the Weapon X program because she never learned about those future events. She did not know about it’s existence until ten years later in X-Men: Apocalypse. It would have made zero sense if she did stop it.

There are special cases where mutant powers develop at (before?) birth. Like Nightcrawler and Mystique and maybe even Azazel.
She might not have been saving Logan from Weapon X, but her using Stryker's appearance makes no sense. Those guys wouldn't know who Stryker was. If it was for the uniform then she could have been any random or even fake cop or military guy. Yet, Singer chose for her to look like Stryker.

It would have made zero sense if she did stop it. actually I just preferred the open ending, made the film even more compelling. the last words wraps it all up well...for the future is not truly set. though having said so, I do wonder what would have happened if James Cameron had not asked for the ending to be re-written. those words and mystique may have been cut out in the end.

"...First off, Singer meant that Mystique was saving Logan from drowning to death..."
That was my impression as well.

Because it originally was Styker and they just edited the eyes in at the last minute.

No. He volunteered as confirmed in Logan. And problems of the various messy timelines. It’s not a problem. Styker meeting Logan during Vietnam happened before 1973.
