Happening to me right now with The Spy Who Came in From the Cold. I read it over 25 years ago and almost nothing about the plot is familiar. I swear if I had a memory of the story, it would be a differently written story than the one I'm reading.

That happens to me a lot. I have horrible retention when it comes to books. I'll sometimes remember broad strokes, but sometimes not even that. I keep a list of books that I've read, and one time I finished a Stephen King book and went to add it to the list, only to realize that it was already on the list as a book that I'd read.

Sigh, I've done that kind of thing as well.

It happens.
I've been a quarter of the way through a book before I realize I've read it before.

Same here. Boy, does that make a person feel dumb...or forgetful...or verging on senile...or maybe a combination of the three.

I don't think I've ever had that happen before, but if I have I don't remember anything about it.

Happens to me with films too! Even ones that I watched within the last year or two!
