On a very special episode of What's Happening!, Rerun is encouraged by a music bootlegger to smuggle a tape recorder into a Doobie Brothers concert and record the performance. When he's found out, the Doobie Brothers lecture Rerun and his pals on the evils of illegally recording music, and then help capture the bootleggers themselves! Okay, so maybe bootleg music isn't as special as substance abuse, death, and molestation, but those Doobie guys seemed awfully solemn about it. I remember that episode. Watching Rerun grooving to the music of the D.B.'s in the front row just didn't look right! well people still do that shit and then you get a crappy copy. you get what you pay for. no movie you spent 5 bucks on when it still in the theaters is going to be the greatest deal alive. in reality, the lecture is the least of your worries. people doing that and getting caught is considered theft. you'd rather a lecture/warning or a record?

Arnold and Dudley got molested, Tom Hanks was a raging alcoholic, Mallory got sexually accosted, Edith almost got raped by a detective, Sam got kidnapped, Cheri locked herself in an old refrigerator, Arnold and Kimberly got kidnapped, Kimberly got bulimia, Arnold and Dudley smoked, Jesse got addicted to caffeine pills, am I missing anything? wut??? he said he was a detective [to gain trust] but obviously he wasn't. Yeah, David Dukes' character wasn't a real cop, he only claimed to be to fake out Edith.

Heather was assaulted, and Wesley's camp counselor "touched" him (same show). Carol's boyfriend died after driving drunk. Carlton learned money doesn't save him, and Will's dad walked out on him (again). My favorite show ever, Seinfeld, came along at the right fucking time. Well, Elaine got accosted by Crazy Joe Davola in an eerie moment for Seinfeld. It's my favorite show too! And yet between that scene, Richie from L.A., and even the death of Susan, Seinfeld never got so serious that scenes were accompanied by sappy music.

The effective ones were the breaking the fourth wall endings. They look at the screen and say, "if someone you know has HIV, here is a number to help you through this tough time." Lol
