Talking on another thread about black and white film being better sometimes. Got me thinking of a trend of the colorization of films originally in black and white. My recollection was from back in the 80s. I had a 'Night of the Living Dead' in color back then and it was horrible. Same as a few others I saw. It was total sacrilege. Anyways, I went to youtube to have a look and came up with this. I guess the technology has improved because it looks pretty good. I'll stick to the original black and white but fair play they did a decent job with color.

I generally prefer my movies in colour as opposed to black and white. Night of the Living Dead would be one of the few exceptions I'd make to that rule. I've only seen it in its original b&w and it somehow seems more authentic that way.
If I wanted to see the story unfold in colour, I'd go for the 1990 remake.

I HATE colorization. Looks PHONEY and cartoonish. GARISH. Some I saw in the 80's were awful. Looked the way you have described. The one on youtube looks like a good job. Like I say the technology must have improved since then. It's pointless.

I don't really have a preference to black and white vs color. Tons of great black and white flicks out there. Classics. Colorization no matter how good seems unnecessary.

In my case, I find it easier to suspend disbelief when a movie is in full colour. Not saying there aren't b&w movies I haven't enjoyed over the years, but my preference is clear. I do agree, however, that colorizing an old b&w movie long after its original production seems pointless and unnecessary.

I watched one of the early Harryhausen films in color (since he had wanted them in color originally I hear). But the skin tones of people were too uniform. It looked weird.

That's the worst part of colored films - people look like wax dummies. Everything else looks kind of artificial too, but not so much as the actors.

This happens a lot on many older DNR enhanced films that were released on blu ray, even if they were made in color. Yeah, that's why I'm quite regular follower of sites like caps-o-holic and DVDBeaver. I can't stand excessive DNR. People who can't understand that film stock is grain and insists on it being "removed" should stick to reading books or something.

It does look good but there was no need to do this.

I can't stand watching a colorized version of a movie originally filmed in black and white. It's interesting to compare, maybe, but they mostly look like crap with color added to them.

Good thing I watched the black-and-white version because it gave it a much grimier feel. I don't mind something being colourized, but it takes away the original meaning.

It's creepier in black and white, and that's a fact!

I actually prefer the 1990 remake more than the original movie but I think the original looks better in black and white. There are some old movies and TV Shows that have been remade in colour that look even better than they originally did but 'Night of the Living Dead' isn't one of them.
