I guess my expectations were too high. My theatre really hyped it up.
its a very well put together movie. The acting of everyone is superb. The child acting is so nuanced, especially two roles (Kayla and Gabe) really made a lasting impression on me. I guess its a good tale about growing up /coming of age, from a perspective of a teenage underdog. It has some novelty to it.
but compared to Edge of Seventeen it had less of a spark for me and felt a bit more mundane.
but still a good movie, if you like that genre and would enjoy watching a well written and superbly acted movie about a 14 year old girl struggling to fit in/fit anywhere and want to see some Amazing scenes of teenage angst venting on a harmless trying parent, go see it.
Oh and it has great music too.
7/10 frome me. maybe a bit more if I still think about it in a few weeks. Lets see.
What did you think?

Might go see that tonight. so what did you think? Being my age and gender, I could only really relate to the Dad character, but it seemed a very honest (bordering on embarrassingly honest) portrait of what being a shy, unpopular teenage girl is like. Excellent performance by the kid who played the lead. Also, if the film was trying to get the point across that kids today are obsessed with social media, well...mission accomplished.
