Both have that extreme low contrast color grading that makes everything look super washed out and drab. It annoys the hell outta me. I tried to watch DS tonight and had to switch to something else after a few minutes.
Anyone else notice this?

I do wish Age of Ultron had been more colourful, but it suited the locations and the tone of the movie. I didn't find it completely unpleasant to look at though like Man of Steel.

I see that President Ackbar™ and @forceghostackbar are back to “President Ackbar” and “Ghost Ackbar,” respectively… Hm. Curious. Why now? I think I suspect a… …purely coincidental return to original display-names. Why, what did you think I was going to say?

Man of Steel is worse, but they're both drab and ugly. I wish AoU had the same grading as the first Avengers. I hate this ridiculous modern Hollywood concept that low contrast imagery subconsciously tricks the viewer into taking the movie more seriously. Besides, this The Avengers! No one wants it to look like gritty realism anyway.

Really? DS? I remember it being fairly colorful. There are lots of colors in the movie's palette... But the image is extremely low contrast and that makes everything look flat and washed out. The colors that are present don't pop like they should. This is a problem in a handful of MCU movies. The phase two-three movies are shot digitally and many are graded with a low contrast color timing that lacks proper black values. Age of Ultron, Winter Solder and Doctor Strange are the ones that really showcase this look.

DC delibrately desaturated MoS and BvS. Its a slightly different thing than having a low contrast image like AoU... But both styles are ugly AF in my opinion.

Can't say I ever noticed. I got curious in the process of color grading a few years ago when I saw a discussion on it on the old imdb. Now, I can't help but notice it in every movie I watch. It takes a trained eye, but once you learn to see it you can't unsee it. Take a look at the opening sequence in AoU and pay attention to the extremely low contrast image. It's washed out, there are no true blacks and none of the colors pop

Here is a perfect illustration... The top half is the original image. The bottom is a color corrected fan edit with better black values.

I noticed Marvel's color grading after watching this video. As @forceghostackbar noted, they turned down the black values that they end up looking gray onscreen. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 fixed the problem, but Thor: Ragnarok went back to using the washed out color grading when it should have been more vibrant.
