I grew up with "The Irish Rovers" album, " Children Of The Unicorn", which was released in 1976. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Children_of_the_UnicornThis album, which was intended for children, did feature a few covers of some famous songs... I believe that "The Irish Rovers" cover versions of the THREE songs featured below are better than the originals... Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I heard these versions first... or... maybe not! It's my opinion that "The Irish Rovers" version of "Snoopy vs The Red Baron" is better than the original "Royal Guardsman" version.... It's my opinion that "The Irish Rovers" version of the "Purple People Eater" is FAR better than the original "Sheb Wooley" version... It's my opinion that "The Irish Rovers" version of "Puff, The Magic Dragon" is better than the original "Peter, Paul and Mary" version... And we know that with this cover being released on a children's album, we really do know that the meaning of lyrics are meant to about a dragon named Puff... And not possibly be some secret message about using drugs... LOL!

I much prefer Roxy Music's version of JEALOUS GUY to John Lennon's original version...

Here is the original copy of "I'll Put Angels Around You" from the Dr. Hook act. Go here to listen to my late beautiful precious Steve Sanders of the Oak Ridge Boys doing his own rendition of the song. God bless you and his family always!!! Holly
P.S. To me, because his heart is just all over the performance, the song is all his.....If only I had discovered him sooner, I love him SO much!!!

One I would say is early Chicago doing "I'm a Man" mostly because of the unsung god of guitar, Terry Kath:

Hendrix - Hey Joe, All Along the Watchtower I am aware that Hendrix's All Along the Watchtower is the definitive version (and I believe even Dylan acknowledged it), but I listen to Dylan's original more often. Maybe it's because I play John Wesley Harding regularly.
