Having seen the trailer, I see it going one of only two ways:
1. Mama-sized disappointment 2. It Follows -type hit

Also, trailer suggest a mysterious viral video is featured. Haven't seen that in any movie before.

I thought it looked cheap and shitty from the first trailer, so I cant imagine I'll be disappointed based on my current expectations.

I'll still watch it, probably. But seeing what kind of rating it comes up with first will be a useful indicator of whether I should bother.

A movie based on creepypasta? No thanks. Why? Why not give it a chance instead of dismissing it out of hand?

No one has time to give every existing (or even upcoming) horror movie a chance, and because adapting a literal internet meme into a film is just a too silly, imho. Why not use some "real" urban legend or real life incident instead?

Why not use some "real" urban legend or real life incident instead? Well, to be fair, a 'real' urban legend or folk tale is no more 'real' than an internet one. Folk tales and urban legends are just older. There's no reason that a internet spawned tale can't be the basis of a good film. In fact, I've heard that that Channel Zero show is actually pretty solid. All that said, I'm sure the movie will suck, and it looks like it represents all the bad ideas that come with basing a movie on an internet story.

Urban legends and folk tales at least have a chance of once being based on something real, even though the story grows as it goes. When a bunch of people on an internet forum just decide to make up something "scary" - that's different.

When a bunch of people on an internet forum just decide to make up something "scary" - that's different. Well, in this case the story is just something someone decided to make up. Which is what all fictional story telling is. I don't get the appeal of this one, but that doesn't necessarily mean that a story that originates this way cant make for a good film... ... but to this point, a story on the internet could easily begin as someone's potentially true experience an evolve over time to become a new sort modern folk tale. That may not be the case here, but just because something came from the internet initially doesn't mean it has to be bad. And just because a story is based on something that may have possibly, but most likely was not, a true story doesn't mean it's better than something that's purely fictional.

The creepypasta series “Search and Rescue Woods” is excellent—impeccably researched and, in many cases, based on real-life incidents in the woods. It’s really first-class, and I’m not a fan of reading stories over the Internet. I understand your reservations, but there are a few good spooky stories on Creepypasta (“Candle Cove” is another). I wouldn’t dismiss them all out of hand.
