They're both flawed, but Pulp Fiction is better than anything Nolan has done.

I mostly prefer Christopher Nolan because of the scale and ambition his films carry, methodical story structure, and interesting use of themes. Quentin Tarantino does write better characters especially strong female ones.

I find every single Tarantino movie absolutely dreadful.
I like The Prestige and the Dark Knight trilogy.
Were I redoing Sarris’s The American Cinema for modern directors, I suppose I’d put Nolan in the “less than meets the eye” category and Tarantino in the “strained seriousness” one. There ya go. I don’t even know if I could put Tarantino in the latter category: Sarris defined it as “talented but uneven directors with the mortal sin of pretentiousness,” but I don’t think I’d even consider Tarantino talented.

I don't know. They're both strong. They both make me want to see whatever they're working on.
Tarantino has a stronger track record for me, and to this day it kind of impresses me that he lives up to his own high opinion of himself. I like his style, his thirst for violence, his tendency to have strong, opinionated characters as well as characters who're unconventionally beautiful. He often does well writing characters on the more esoteric side of relatable.
Sometimes I expect his earlier works to start falling off and become dated, but I find they still cook every time.
Nolan's also very good. There's an emotional precision and depth that I think he misses, which fits because (in my opinion) his strongest offering bears out scenarios where emotions are literally human viruses trying to stop the mission, but he compensates by casting strong actors whose performances bear out emotions he doesn't always capture through dialogue.
I also think you write what you know. Masculine, stoic, gritty, and on top of that, morality that bears itself out through logic instead of emotion, which to me explains his perception of Batman as dark, no nonsense, almost Undertaker-like.
I don't know who's better, but I know who does likable better. I also know that sometimes, likable isn't what I want, so they both scratch different itches.

This like picking "the chicken or the fish" at a wedding. I like both, but they're so different.
Gotta ultimately go Tarantino though. While both directors have their definitive style, Tarantino's is a bit more adventurous to me. He also wins by a nose for his casting choices.
What's exciting is that both are quite young. I'm thinking, liking both of them, their best work is ahead of them. They are just getting started...

I love the works of both, but I gotta go with Tarantino. He writes better dialogue, has more unusual characters, has better soundtracks and he features nostalgia.

Tarantino wins comfortably overall as Nolan's only gem is The Prestige (2006) (8/10) where as QT has the following movies worth mentioning...
1.Pulp Fiction (1994) - 9/10 2.Django Unchained (2012) - 7.5-8/10 3.The Hateful Eight (2015) - 6.5-7/10 -.Kill Bill vol 2 (2004)

I love how people on here say Tarantino is not a top 50 Director or has never made a good film. Hilarious. Name 50 Directors better. It is seriously impossible. Never a good movie? Pulp Fiction? Reservoir Dogs? Kill Bill? Inglorious Basterds? Django Unchained? The Hateful 8? Jackie Brown? All classics pretty much.

Not one of these movies is good to you? I seriously find that pretty hard to believe.

Right, DSDSquared. I don’t like QT’s style, meandering dialogue, level of violence, affected acting, or postmodernistic ripping off everything. And something about his movies really bothers me, turns me off. I was only responding because you said you can’t imagine someone who doesn’t like his work. But it’s all opinion.

silly question, as they say: even a broken clock is right two times a day. Same with those creatives. It's a as if asking which you prefer: the chicken or the egg? How could you get a chicken without having to break an egg...

I actually like both but out of my top 100 films or so I believe Tarantino has a exactly one more entry (definitely an arbitrary list of mine that is constantly in flux).
Inglourious Basterds Jackie Brown Death Proof Django Unchained
Nolan
Batman Begins The Dark Knight Dunkirk
I agree with Salzmank in that I do dislike the level of extreme violence in most (all?) Tarantino films. I actually totally enjoyed Hateful Eight until the final act. It was just way over the top. But I do think some of his characters are extremely well written and likable (even the bad guys). Robert Forster and Pam Grier were amazing in Jackie Brown and Brad Pitt was just well written and played his role well in I.B. Michael Fassbender as well in that film and who can forget Christoph Waltz. The film made him basically a household name.
Nolan does very well with storytelling. I also like his devotion to Michael Caine who could possibly be one of the best actors ever. I'm not overstating this. Even horrible films that Caine has been in his role is always played top notch.
