I rather miss the time when I would go to Tower Records and there would be a large selection of independently published zines, some pretty slickly produced and others charmingly DIY:

I used to enjoy reading Details about 20 years ago but then the format/content changed and it wasn't as interesting.

Nothing these days as I can't afford the subscriptions. In the past I've subscribed to Hot Rod, Car & Driver, National Lampoon, Modern Photography, Vintage Guitar, Woodenboat, Rod & Custom, Mad Magazine, Outdoor Life, Fishing Facts, Playboy, TV Guide and a bunch of others.

I used to love Spy magazine.

I liked how Spy always referred to one celebrity in particular as a "short-fingered vulgarian."
I also liked several film magazines, Premiere(general movies), Scarlet Street (cult mystery, sci-fi, horror and noir classics), and Classic Images (with bios of stars as well as lesser-known character actors. I think only the last one is still around. MAD magazine, which gave its younger readers a well-needed education in cynicism. The movie/TV parodies were great.
Mental Floss.
