Some:
A Serbian Film is a genuinely good horror movie.
The original Paranormal Activity is excellent. It’s a shame they changed the ending for the theatrical release. I don’t think many people have seen the original ending.
The Blair Witch Project (1998) is one of the best and scariest horror movies of all time.
Ringu (1998) is much better and scarier than The Ring (2002).
The first 2 Hostel movies are very good and most of Eli Roth’s movies are good or atleast enjoyable.
Andreas Schnaas’ movies are enjoyable.
The Innkeepers (2011) is a great movie.

Dracula (1931) is impossible to sit through. The start is OK but then it becomes campy and irritating. Ditto.

Evil Dead II is the weak link in the trilogy. It's an overproduced and unnecessary remake of a horror masterpiece and fails to strike the right balance between comedy and horror. The first film is MUCH better. Just my opinion.

Edward D. Wood Jr. had some good horror concepts and wrote scripts that may have had potential if he'd worked with bigger budgets and other writers.

I'm aware that Phantasm has a solid cult following and a lot of horror fans love it, but I didn't like it at all. It had a few good scenes but overall I felt it was quite amateurish. And badly acted.
Also, I wasn't too fond of Evil Dead II.

A horror movie doesn't have to be 'scary' to be good.

Shark movies are boring to me. I like them as obstacles within a movie, but not for the whole thing to focus on them. -The Stepfather remake really is THAT bad. Most find it to be mediocre but I just thought it was terrible.
-The Rage: Carrie 2 isn't as bad as most make it out to be. The 2013 remake was even weaker.
Agreed with these two.

Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 is a great underrated movie.
Jason Takes Manhatten is one of the best Fridays.
I like Nightmare on Elm Street 5 The Dream Child better than the original.
The Conjuring and Paranormal Activity are not remotly scary.
I dont like Suspiria.
Get Out is very overrated.

In the movie "Alien", people are always dissing on Lambert's character, saying she was weak or cowardly, whining, etc. That always bothered me. Lambert was easily my favorite character in the movie, as well as, I feel, the most realistic character in the movie. (I really liked Parker's character, too, and Parker and Lambert had really good chemistry. At least they went out, more or less, together.) People who criticize or judge Lambert are projecting their own deeply buried suspicions that they themselves would react just as Lambert reacted and this is just too much for them to ponder, so they scapegoat Lambert. No fair!
And damn, if there is somebody who is able to convey abject terror on film better than Veronica Cartwright, I don't know who that would be!

HELLO MARY LOU: PROM NIGHT II is my favourite Horror Film of 1987. I find that movie so much fun!
I agree entirely with the rest of what you say, except my favorite horror film of 87' is A Nightmare On Elm St. Part 3: Dream Warriors I'd agree ANOES 3 or NEAR DARK is probably the best of '87 but I get more enjoyment from PROM NIGHT II. Something to do with Lisa Schrage I think!

House Of Wax - 05' was the best horror film of the 00's. I wouldn't go THAT far but it was quite enjoyable.

The 1963 Haunting is horrible, and the novel sucked, too. The 1999 film is good.

The 1963 Haunting is horrible, and the novel sucked, too. The 1999 film is good. Could you go more in depth about your opinion of the Hauntings?I know you said you had many unconventional opinions on movies, and unconventional opinions always intrigue me. Just to let you know where I’m coming from: I love the book, have mixed feelings about the ’63 movie, and think the ’99 movie is better than its reputation warrants (but, with that reputation, it would almost have to be).

It would be difficult to go into detail without experiencing them again. But basically the soap operatic qualities were uninteresting and/or annoying to me, and I especially hated the main character and narration in the film.

“Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors” and “Friday the 13th Part IV: Final Chapter” are usually seen as many people’s favourites of those franchises, however I find them to be both overrated.
Never understood the love for “Event Horizon”. Same goes for “Deep Rising”.
“Return of the Swamp Thing” and “Trilogy of Terror II” are two sequels better than the originals.
“Return of the Living Dead 3” is the best of the series.
I like a lot more films of director Fred Olen Ray than I dislike.
“The Final Destination” was enjoyable and not the worst of the franchise.
I mostly see negative opinions for the Japanese “Tomie” films, but so far, it has been a great horror series.
“Black Christmas” is a good horror remake.
I prefer the threatical cut of Rob Zombie’s “Halloween 2”.
“Four Flies On Grey Velvet” is the best of the Argento’s Animal trilogy.

Friday the 13th Parts 5 and 8 are underrated and two of the most entertaining entries in the series. They're dumb movies, sure, but they're so much fun. I even enjoy Jason Goes to Hell and Jason X on a certain level, in a "so bad, they're good" guilty pleasure sort of way.
Rob Zombie's Halloween movies are trash and an insult to Carpenter's brilliant vision. Zombie's music and other movies are great, but he clearly didn't understand what made Michael Myers such a terrifying character and instead went with a highly generic and clichéd origin story. And his second film just felt like an overly long music video with white trash cardboard cut outs for characters and a childish overuse of profanity.
Wes Craven's New Nightmare is overrated, and I can't see why it seems to be everyone's favorite Freddy sequel. Some even say it's their favorite Freddy movie in general, even over the original! It's a good movie, sure, but I'll never understand why it's so overly praised.
The 2003 version of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is overrated. It isn't one of the worst remakes out there, but it missed the point of the original entirely and I HATED the new members of the cannibal family, except for R. Lee Ermey, who was awesome. Will never understand how someone can prefer this style-over-substance remake over the flawless original.
The Exorcist is an excellent film, one of the best horror movies ever made, but it does not scare me at all. Never has.
My Bloody Valentine 3D was an excellent remake, almost on par with the original, and far better than any of the other recent remakes we've gotten lately. I'd say the same for The Hills Have Eyes, though I still prefer the original.
I'll think of more later.

The first film is MUCH better. Just my opinion. Fair enough. Evil Dead II is my favorite movie, but I can definitely understand someone preferring the original, which was far scarier, gorier, and had a more focused and consistent tone. But Evil Dead II isn't a remake, it's a sequel.

I wouldn't go THAT far but it was quite enjoyable. I just loved the presentation. It reminded me of some of the classic 80's horror films in atmosphere. At any rate, it is my favorite one and I might also sing out that Hostel 1 and 2 are the best of the 00's, which I found to be a pretty abysmal decade for horror.
What would you rate as the best of the 00's.

Just thought of a few more opinions that might go against the mainstream flow.........and while I'm at it, I'd like to compliment the OP on kicking off this fun but very interesting thread!
I prefer Argento's INFERNO and TENEBRAE to his much more acclaimed SUSPIRIA.
Ahead of his POLTERGEIST and THE FUNHOUSE, I prefer Tobe Hooper's rather obscure I'M DANGEROUS TONIGHT.
I liked Tom Cruise as Lestat in INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE - not sure how unpopular this is but I know Anne Rice purists were horrified and the news of his casting at the time was generally met with scorn.
I thought Marilyn Chambers gave a very decent acting performance in RABID.
I find Roman Polanski's REPULSION and THE TENANT are more effective than his acclaimed ROSEMARY'S BABY.
NEAR DARK for me is a much superior vampire film to THE LOST BOYS.
I don't rate either of the 28 DAYS/WEEKS movies very highly - much prefer TRAIN TO BUSAN.
THE CONJURING 2 has a 10 minute Amityville sequence better than the whole of the 2005 AMITYVILLE movie and all of the original series sequels (this might not be unpopular!).
Despite Chris Walas' Oscar, the final Brundlefly creature at the climax to THE FLY (1986), to me looks like a clunky, badly pieced together and daft looking puppet that would collapse into pieces if you blew hard enough at it! This after excellent makeup throughout the movie preceding.
