Her husband was a notorious philanderer, and I pretty much suspect the 'disappearance' was a cheating holiday from her cheating spouse.

I've always hoped that it was an act of revenge against her weaselly husband (her assumed name was similar to that of his mistress) and that she never expected it to garner such publicity, so she never spoke publicly about it.
