SCTV, in my opinion, was one of the best comedy sketch shows ever to air. For anyone familiar with the show, here's an interesting rundown of some of the more memorable characters they created: www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2016/02/the-10-best-sctv-characters.htmlAgree or disagree, or have any particular sketches you remember ?? Personally, I never liked the Bob and Doug McKenzie "Great White North" sketches (though I LOVED both Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas!). However, this is one I always liked, which was also included in the above link: SAVE FERRIS

I have long believed that SCTV is THE best sketch comedy show of all time.

Great show. It was the Canadian Saturday Night Live, but unfortunately it only lasted two seasons. I think it could have gone for longer and still kept the quality up. Here's one of my favorites. Enjoy.

I always like "This Hour" more. Rick Mercer was good, Mary Walsh and Cathy Jones with the crazy characters they dreamed up - Marg Delahunty smoking cigarettes while swimming laps in the pool, Dakey Dunn ranting about feminists (Mary in drag), the two grumpy old ladies, and of course Joe Crow:

With the exception of the Phil Hartman and Dana Carvey years on SNL, I think SCTV was much funnier than SNL. Such an incredibly talented group.
One skit I always loved:

I loved SCTV. I was lucky enough to pick up a Canadian TV station which ran it. One of the best sketches was Count Floyd's Monster, Chiller, Horror Theater, where he used to get stuck with Bergman films.

They didn't do it in front of a live audience or have a laugh track. I found it more interesting and entertaining than funny actually.

There was a lot more SCTV than people realize. There was the original 30 minute SCTV show which lasted 3 seasons and 78 episodes. Curiously the next season would start the year after the last season ended, hence running for 6 years from 1976-81.
Then came a 90 minute version called SCTV Network which was made for NBC lasting 39 episodes over 2 seasons from 1981-83.
Finally, from 1983-84 there was a 1 hour version called SCTV Channel which ran 18 episodes and 1 season.
That's the equivalent of 231 half hour episodes over 9 years from 1976-84.

Never saw it. I have seen clips though and just don't think it is very funny.
I remember Count Floyd from his spots on The Electric Company I think, or some show I watched when I was little. I liked him.
I blind bought Strange Brew and love it though. It's lol funny!
The original mouse-in-a-beer bottle sketch is included as an extra on the DVD. Again..not all that funny, but the movie itself is very entertaining.

Yeah, a lot of people who talk about SCTV don’t actually know anything about, as you just showed it was on for a hell of a lot longer than 2 seasons. It was a Canadian show but came from the Second City theater which started in the US. Ramis, Martin and Flaherty were all American so it wasn’t a completely Canadian show.

Guy Cabellero was probably my favorite. I also loved Vic Hedges, he saved everybody’s life.....but he’d stab you in the back in a heartbeat lol! Lola Heatherton, Edith Prickly, Doctor Tongue, Red Rooster, Ed Grimly, just a great show.

Unless you got Canadian tv back when they originally aired it might have been hit and miss whether you could see shows in syndication. Season 6 was supposedly aired on pay tv although I'm sure I saw it in syndication some time after. Throw in that it took a long time for shows to be released on home video (and I don't think they're still all available), shows were reedited into 30 minute episodes for syndication and music used puts up a big rights problem and it gets pretty confusing as to what someone might have seen. According to Wikipedia there's 185 half hour episodes available in the syndication package.
