Hepburn being required to fall in love with Grant so quickly, especially after he's given her the runaround and messed her around. But what else to expect from a romantic comedy of the times?

There's probably 10,000 films which require a greater level of suspension of disbelief.

That little kid is my biggest problem with CHARADE. Otherwise, I find it delightful.

That little kid is my biggest problem with CHARADE. Otherwise, I find it delightful. Fortunately he is in it very little .. just to boost the plot along when needed …. twisty plot that it is.... a forever favorite film even after knowing all the who-is-whos and who-dunnit-and-whys.
I LOVE learning and sharing this stuff ! Tom Chelimsky and his sister Kathy Chelimsky were American children who each appeared in childhood with Audrey Hepburn in a Stanley Donen film in the 1960's.(Kathy was in "Two for the Road", 1967.) Each appeared only in one film; neither pursued a career as an actor. They both became physicians (in the U.S.) - He is a noted Neurologist and Professor in Cleveland, Ohio [January 2005] As of 2011, professor and chairman of the Department of Neurology at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
His not being a French child might explain his pretty bad French accent ?

My sincere apologies to Dr. Tom Chelimsky. I take it back. You were the best part of CHARADE.

My sincere apologies to Dr. Tom Chelimsky. I take it back. You were the best part of CHARADE. Seriously, thanks for mentioning young Tom... trivia like this is why IMDb was so valuable and is so missed. That and the darn missing character info and the quotes... we REALLY need them back ! <grumble>

jervistetch Thomas Chelimsky was dubbed by a French woman.
The mystery of how he happened to be in this movie deepens ! It's no Columbo log book or Sleuth singer but still ! Detective Nalkarj needs to be set loose on the case ! EDIT … the dubbing seems to be an un-substantiated IMDb trivia comment. and Nalkarj did solve the mystery on the I Need to Know board in record time ! His check is in the mail.

Common complaint is that Cary was too Old to woo Audrey. Here's this about that (from IMDb page)
Cary Grant initially turned down the movie because he felt that, at almost sixty, he would seem like too much of a predator, chasing the much younger Audrey Hepburn. (Ironically, Hepburn was several years older than some actresses who had already played Grant's love interests in the 1950s, such as Sophia Loren and Jayne Mansfield.)
In a last ditch attempt to convince Grant to play the role, Screenwriter Peter Stone worked all night on the script and presented it to Grant to look over just once more. Grant happily accepted the role, prompting producers to demand to know what Stone had done. Stone had simply moved all of the romantically aggressive lines from Grant's character to Audrey Hepburn's, making her the pursuer.

What absolutely ruins CHARADE for me -- Audrey returns from her weekend ski trip carrying only a small overnight suitcase, only to discover that her Paris apartment is completely empty -- even the closets. Yet for the remainder of the film she wears a collection of stylish Givenchy outfits.
I just hate hate hate that every time I rewatch the movie (approaching 20 now).

Thinking Cary was too old doesn't work. Shortly after seeing it when Iwas about 10, I told my mother I was going to marry him. Her reply was, "Fine, but just don't bring him home,!"
I saw it on a double bill with MIRAGE, which confused me because of shared cast members.
Peter Stone, who wrote the script has quite the varied career. Check him out.

What absolutely ruins CHARADE for me
Is all those fascinating villains that take the attention away from the lead actors. What were they thinking ?
Actually filming it in Paris ? Is it supposed to be a travelogue ?

It doesn't bother me, people in films always fall in love quickly, they have to because they've only got about an hour and a half to two hours to do it.

My only real gripe about Charade is the fact that we, the viewers, never got a clear glimpse of the stamps on the envelope, until late in the film - after the fact, so to speak. Many viewers likely would've caught on much earlier than the rest of those lovable dolts that the stamps were old and rare, quite probably being the source of the elusive 250,000 dollars that everybody was looking for.

ZolotoyRetriever spoiler needed ^^^^^ It's that thingy on the far right with the finger to its lips. Believe it or not .. not everyone has seen Charade and it helps to not know the secret ahead of time !

Believe it or not .. not everyone has seen Charade and it helps to not know the secret ahead of time ! Well, if you insist... although, honestly, I've long felt that people who are concerned about movies they haven't seen being spoiled for them should NOT be clicking on message board threads where that very movie is clearly going to be discussed, possibly, even quite probably, in great detail.
TBH, for people who haven't seen Charade and might be worried about spoilers, just the very title of this thread [Charade is kind of ruined by....] should be "spoiler warning" enough in its own right to steer them away from clicking on it.

That little kid is my biggest problem with CHARADE. I agree. Obnoxious little brat, like 95% of kids in American films and 80% of kids in other nations' films. Only thing worse than kids in films are cute dogs.
