Every now and then I get a craving for bagels with cream cheese and lox so I go to the grocery store and get what I need. As far as lox go, the choices are limited. There’s smoked salmon and there’s deli thin smoked nova lox. So I searched what is the difference between smoked salmon and lox? And the results were, lox are NEVER SMOKED SALMON. Lox are brined, salt, sugar cured but not cooked or smoked. I went to Publix yesterday and found packaged nova lox smoked thin deli salmon by Vita. There were other packaged salmon next to it also but only the one said lox. There were three employees right there and one asked if I needed help so I told them what that learned about salmon being wrongly labeled lox if it was smoked and they all naturally said it wasn’t true. They insisted what they had there labeled smoked salmon lox was indeed lox. Well I wanted to eat some so I bought it but I believe what I read. There was countless articles that all said the same thing. Lox are not smoked salmon. I guess I need to go to a specialty deli. I remember lox being very salty.

You need to find a Kosher deli then you will get true lox.
