Anyone notice the many movies and TV shows (especially Westerns) where the protagonists' main motive for action is to avenge the killing of his brother?
Occasionally, there will be a woman seeking to avenge the killing of her sister (MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS is an example), but those cases are few and far between.
IRL, such sibling closeness is quite rare, in fact, in many cases, sibling rivalry goes on well into adulthood. From the advice columns I read (Dear Abby, Ask Amy, etc.), so many brothers and sisters are totally estranged from each other, and certainly, none would spend the time (and risk their lives) to dig out their killers.
I realize that movies and TV are not necessarily a reflection of reality, but sometimes I find this situation especially untenable.
What do you think?

On Topic The "protagonists' main motive for action is to avenge the killing of his brother" OFTEN makes for a good film story.
Addressing the Off Film Topic portion of this THREAD: People who get along with each other do not write to advise columns asking for getting along advise. If they did write to tell how well they and their siblings get along, the negative tales are juicier and more readable and would more likely be the ones published..
"Sibling closeness is quite rare" based on Dear Abby letters is probably statistically inaccurate.

Not about revenge but might be of some interest: "There’s nothing quite as powerful as the bond between siblings – although sometimes there’s nothing more complicated than sibling rivalry. Sometimes these films make us feel better about our own complicated relationships with our families and siblings! There are tons of great movies that look at the role siblings play in each other's lives." Sisters in Films Brothers and Sisters in FilmsBrothers in Films
