The Virgin Spring, I guess. I don't generally like that time in history depicted on screen (and I'm sure I would have enjoyed it even less in real life), but this movie was very simply done and it was emotionally effective. I have had this on dvd for several years, but haven't watched yet. I believe Wes Craven loosely based his Last House On The Left on Bergman's film. You are correct sir, Craven did base LHOTL on Bergman's film. When you do watch The Virgin Spring, you will see the strong resemblances.

Ivanhoe w/Elizabeth Taylor and Robert Taylor...the jousting sequences are mesmerizing.
The Black Shield of Falworth is worth a look see.

Severely underrated movie. Production design wise, it is also a movie that appears to be a very realistic depiction of the dirty, ugly, grimy, pestilent ridden era that we can hear and read about in historical texts\teachings. I was glad to experience this film from the comfort of a theater seat. In spite of the suffering depicted on screen, it is still a relatively entertaining and enjoyable ride, regardless of it's graphic content. There is nothing quite like Flesh & Blood and Verhoeven made a minor classic and no thanks to his terrific cast as well. This was a well done B movie, with an A list veneer.
*edit* Found this in the IMDB trivia:
I should probably watch this movie. Paul Verhoeven is one of my favorite directors and Rutger Hauer is one of my favorite actors, so it would make sense if I saw it.
