Because people should be free to believe what they want. Exactly! That is why it should be illegal. So what you just said makes no sense. Everyone should believe what they want and religion is stopping people from doing that. They are forced to believe all the set beliefs and rules of their chosen religion rather than come up with their own. It's not like they can just pick and choose which parts of certain different religions they like. It's either commit to one or otherwise you're not a "true believer". |

They kept many of the trappings, just altered the focus of the belief system.
Like in North Korea.

They suppressed Christianity in the SU. Killed or imprisoned any leaders who showed resistance to the government.
China kidnapped some kid who was the designated reincarnation of a Tibetan monk and replaced him with their own choice.
In that case they are attempting to manipulate the religious system as they race replace the country.

Yes, they've harnessed the power and many of the trappings of traditional religion - along with other more obvious methods - and converted it to their needs to maintain power over the general population. |

In a country where there is "supposedly" freedom of religion no political leader should impose his or her religion on everyone as if it were a state religion or federal law. We don't all believe the same thing. We don't vote religious leaders. We vote political leaders. If you want religion go to church.
