Maybe it does make sense and I'm just confused about it but:
The driver (ryan gosling) works for Shannon (bryan Cranston ) . Then Shannon introduces the driver to Bernie rose (albert brooks) and Nino (ron Pearlman), because Shannon want to borrow 300 k from Bernie rose to invest in a racecar that the driver can drive. So then, meanwhile the driver meets his neighbor irene and then later her husband standard when he gets out of prison. Then the driver finds out that Standard is in trouble because he owes money to this guy named, Cook. And of course the driver agrees to help this guy Standard by helping him rob a pawn shop, which goes wrong. Then The driver finds out that he was set up in the robbery by Cook, so... The driver confronts Cook, threatens him and makes him confess that Nino was really behind the whole thing. So, so far it's already been shows that Bernie knows Nino, and know we knowthat Nino knows Cook. They all 3 are shown together in the same scene later so they obviously know each other.
So I don't have a problem with the fact that they all 3 (Bernie, cook, nino) know each other. But what I don't get is how does the driver just happen to be introduced to Bernie rose and nino at almost the beginning of the film...
But then later gets involved with his neighbor's ex con husband , Standard who just happens to be involved with Cook and by relation nino also?
I mean , is it like a small world or something in this movie?
