Great filmmaking, who had a varied career. He was also a really solid actor too.

Key Largo The Treasure of the Sierra Madre The Asphalt Jungle Beat the Devil The Man who Would Be King
Sometimes great director. Have always struggled to tolerate him as an actor, though - that drawling voice really grates. I much prefer watching his father and daughter in front of the camera.

Favorite Huston movies as director: Favorite Huston movies as an actor: He seemingly only acted in mostly crappy movies, but Chinatown (1974) was an exception. Confession Time: I had always assumed that he was the face/voice of Adam Sandler's Happy Madison Productions, but someone informed me it was someone else. You have to admit, it sure seems like him!

I love how its a boxing film, but the boxing is only used an excuse to depict the characters progression throughout. Great.

Three legends, Dennis Hooper, John Ford and John Huston, three personalities.

The Maltese Falcon. That is certainly one that can be watched repeatedly. I was on what you could call the set of the last film Huston made, called Mr. North. He died during the production about a mile from where I lived at the time. I was briefly on the set (or on the scene) between takes at the courthouse in Newport, RI. I saw Lauren Bacall standing on the courthouse steps and shortly after that Robert Mitchum drove away in a Model A Ford and waved to all of us as he sped off. I wish I had had a camera.
