www.wtnh.com/news/connecticut/it-s-national-root-beer-float-day-/1348742300August 6 is National Root Beer Float Day! According to NationalDayCalendar.com, an authority on these seemingly daily holidays, the root beer float was invented this month in 1893 in Colorado. Frank J. Wisner of Cripple Creek, Colorado was inspired by snow-capped mountains when he came up with the idea to add a scoop of ice cream to a cold glass of root beer. He loved it so much that he started serving it at his bar the next day, and the rest is history.
