They're really embracing the stupidity, absurdity, and, we can hope, the fun of this movie.
The fans of the book might have a tough time accepting it, but I think not taking this subject too seriously is probably the best approach.

Seen the trailers, think I'll pass. Oh come on! A movie with a gigantic great white shark eating people...you don't want to see that? I'm not anticipating it to be Jaws level great, but I am definitely going to see it.

They cut it down from an R rating. Not cool.

I wonder how accurate those nutrition facts are. The calorie counts seem believable.

Just so long as it's not a full on Hollywood version of Six Headed Shark vs Megasquid BS.

Would they get into copyright issues if they said "these sharks go to 11?"

One early review on Youtube. Gives it a C+ (for sake of objectivity) but admits they'd give it an A- for entertainment value.
I guess we can expected a mixed reception at best then a la the Jurassic World movies (whose financial success is the reason I'm sure this got fast-tracked at all). If what this guy said holds true, I'm game.

Can only hope it’s fun, but it didn’t surprise me they toned it down for a cinema release. The thing that disappointed me more about reading the article was their decision not to even complete those gore scenes for an uncut release when it becomes available to own/rent/stream. Odd choice. As nowadays you usually see sprawled across the front cover of the DVD/bluray “the Uncut edition - the version they wouldn’t show in cinemas”.

I guess finishing the effects on some of those would have cost a lot more, and they didn't think it would be worth it just for DVD sales.

The way the director was getting excited by explaining how gory it could’ve been felt like a tease, when he suddenly changed his tune thinking it was better off not going down that route. However I wouldn’t be surprised if it had go down path because of the overblown budget more so then own his choice.
