OK, I could look it up, but why waste my time. How the hell is a loss awarded to a pitcher in last night's WBC game between Netherlands and Puerto Rico? If you don't know what happened, here's the quick rundown: The game went to extra innings and in the eleventh inning the rules dictate that both teams get runners placed on first and second at the start of their at bat. So Netherlands fail to score in top of 11th and now Puerto Rico is up bottom of 11th, no out, man on first and second because they are placed there. First PR batter bunts and moves runners over to second and third...then sac fly, guy on third comes home, ball game over. Puerto Rico wins. Now how in the hell do you give a loss to the pitcher? He wasn't responsible for the two baserunners...a rule put the winning run on second base! It really is a weird way to end a game. The Netherlands really did nothing wrong. The pitcher got the two men he faced out! Yet, he gets the loss?

That's something they're going to have to look at if they adopt this in MLB. I'm all for putting one guy on 2B to start extra innings. Not sure what the best thing is for allocating L. Or how you score that runner being placed on 2B.

I'm all for putting one guy on 2B to start extra innings. Dude, have you seen that rule in action, yet? I saw it last night for first time and it was exactly as ridiculous and anti-climactic as I thought t would be. The problem is this, a sac fly is now the game winner. Ooooh, how exciting. Both teams employed the same strategy. Bunt to move runners over, play for a simple sac. There was no build up of drama - hell, the inning started off with two men on already! And then a sac fly to win game...dullsville. And there is another problem, the team in the bottom of the inning has a huge advantage: they already know what the other team did. Say team A in top of inning fails to score, that cinches it for team B...just play for that sac fly to win game. The team at the top of the inning really doesn't know whether to play for big inning or just get that one runner at second across the plate. Both teams are given the same scenario at the start of their at bat - a runner on second and a runner at first - yet, the one team at the top of the inning really does not know how to play that situation. Distinct advantage for one team, the idea of a sacrifice being the big climax of a game....the rule should not be brought to MLB.

I'm all for putting one guy on 2B to start extra innings. What? That is the most asinine rule suggestion I had ever heard, not even the NHL has ever incorporated a rule that fucking retarded.
