In Florida, there is a "Stand Your Ground" law where a citizen has the right to shoot someone if they feel their life is in danger or threatened.
A man came out of the gas station with his son to find a man arguing with his wife. He runs up, shoves the man yelling at his wife. The man on the ground pulls out a gun, shoots the father, and he collapses and dies on the spot. All on camera.
The shooter didn't get arrested. Here is the video. And people wonder why cops shoot these people...

So in other words if you think you might get your ass whooped its all good to pull out a gun and kill the guy? That's what it looked like to me. Gotta feel for the kid too. Seeing his father get shot and then watching him collapse in the store.

Yeah, that's the part that got me in the gut man. Seeing that kid panicking, trying to get his dad into the door of the store. Probably scared, and didn't know what to do.
Then that a**hole pansy who pulled the gun out gets away with this.

Scary realization: there are quite a few a**hole pansies out there who'll see the idiot's actions as 'heroic'. That's one reason these insane 'stand your ground' laws get passed--they have too many supporters in this effed up nation of ours.

Without "blaming the victim" - what's he doing injecting himself into a situation that is none of his business, and assaulting a stranger? He minds his business, he's still alive. And as far as these "stand your ground" laws go, I think this is one of the more clear cut cases. I seem to recall another where someone knocked on someone's door late at night and the homeowner fired a gun through the door and killed them. Nope.
The problem with these laws is, while there are situations where they're necessary, when people with guns know the law exists, they're probably a little quicker to use them.

Sure, but coming out and seeing that his first reaction was to shove the guy.

That clears it up a bit for me. Could not watch the video (computer acting up) but when I read this: " A man came out of the gas station with his son to find a man arguing with his wife" I thought the guy was arguing with the victims wife. Hope people that see this will just keep moving and call the cops ASAP. Had he done that he would still be alive.

unfortunately, the way this story is written [either copied by THEGODFATHER or reiterated] is the usual way news stories are written.
SHE WHO? HE WHO?
so NX is spot on with 'see something get the hell out of dodge'. let the ghetto people [who fight in public, push complete strangers no matter why, have guns on their person without being a police officer or federal agent] put on a show and just drink your 7-11 slurpie.

Thats what I got out of the news story. The guy was with his girlfriend and son. The girl was driving, parked the car and the guy and kid went into the store. The shooter approached the car and got into an argument over where the lady parked (she parked in a handicapped spot), then what we see in the video happened.

While I know they got a stand your ground law, and that's fine, the main problem I have in this case is while the guy shoved him for arguing with his girlfriend, which I suspect many might do, where the problem for me comes into play is that after he shoved the guy who had a gun on him to the ground, you can see the guy who shoved him sort of back off a bit after he seen the guy going for his gun but yet the guy still fired even when he could clearly see the guy who shoved him backing away (i.e. the potential threat to his life was pretty much gone at that point). that the biggest strike against the guy with the gun based on the video. with that said... while I can understand the guy was trying to defend his girlfriend would have probably been best to avoid that really hard shove right off the start as that would have avoided further conflict as a really hard shove like that probably got the guy (who was shoved to the ground) starting to fear things might get worse for him and then started going for his gun. but like I was saying, at this point you can clearly see he had it pulled out aiming at him for roughly 2-3 seconds before pulling the trigger as you can see the gun move slightly, which I am assuming is when he pulled the trigger, and then a brief moment later you can see the guy grab himself a bit like he's been shot. for the record... I am pro-gun. but like I say the only thing that makes the guy with the gun look bad is that you can see he had to have acknowledged the guy was backing off but still shot him as it would have looked much better for the guy with the gun had the other guy kept on attacking him, but he did not.
but with all of that said... I am sure the media will promote the crap out of this since they are anti-gun to make gun owners look bad (plus, they always like the 'white guy shoots black guy' angle so they can play up the race thing etc).
Yeah, in my mind... based on the video the guy who pulled the gun had enough time to think and see that the other guy was backing off at which point the threat was no longer there.
it does not look good for the guy with the gun in this case... because like I was saying, if the guy kept on attacking him and then got shot it would have looked a lot more plausible in favor of the guy with the gun. but as is, with that 2-3 second windows as the guy with the gun had to see the guy who shoved him was backing off at that point (i.e. threat was going away) and then he pulled the trigger anyways.

That's my problem with it as well. Shoving the guy was a bit much, but as I said before, if you go out and see someone arguing with your girlfriend, wife, etc... you may just act without thinking it through. But like you said, the guy having seen the weapon backed off. Why shoot him? When he backed off the threat was over. Perhaps the guy who was shoved acted without thinking as well. Its just a shame that someone lost their life over this and that the child had to witness it.

theshape25Yeah, I can possibly see someone over-reacting a bit and it was a shove so not too much harm done there. Yeah, basically that's about the only potential thing going for the guy with the gun is maybe he panicked a bit. but you would think he would still have ultimately not fired the gun given he was pointing it at the guy for roughly 2-3 seconds before firing so he seems to have had at least a little time to think (which would 'seem' to be enough) before pulling the trigger. because if he was just getting his @$$ repeatedly beat, and pulled the gun and fired I could easily understand then because you don't have too much time to think there and might just re-act etc. so basically that guy with the gun might not have been thinking clearly. at least I hope he was not because if he was thinking clear enough and yet still pulled the trigger that looks quite shady (maybe even evil) on his part. Yeah, that's basically the worst part. the kid had to see his dad die and it was basically over petty stuff. surely nothing worth losing a life over. just happened to be in one of those bad situations where things went about as bad as they could have for the guy with the kid because if I was in that guys shoes (the one with the kid)... it's hard to say exactly how I would have reacted but I don't think I would have reacted in the exact same way with the hard shove as I am probably more of the type to try talking a bit first. but, like I say, people react to situations like that a bit differently and it's not a stretch for someone to rush up and shove someone like that when their girlfriend is being (apparently) yelled at etc. but what looks good for the guy who did the shove, is that he basically backed off after the initial shove, especially after the guys gun was drawn. but I would assume from the female/kid point of view... they are going to be really upset (and probably pissed off) that he had to die over a hard shove and I could not blame them for thinking that way either.

I don't think I would have went out and immediately shoved the guy either. I probably would have asked the guy what the problem was and tried to solve the situation with words. At the same time we aren't privy to what the guy with the gun was saying to the woman either. He could have been threatening her, which made the guy decide to shove him. We will probably never know what the true story is.

I am surprised he didn't shoot her for erroneously parking in a handicapped spot. There was no argument. She was wrong. Her boyfriend/husband is dead because of her.
