would you say something?
First, you're assuming the adult is the parent, but just for the sake of argument....
The adult is yelling and cursing at the child. Calling them names and using swear words. Would you admonish them?
What if the adult physically slaps or hits the child?
Luckily, I haven't seen the latter, but sometimes when I see the former, I'm SO tempted to say something. But no, gotta keep walking.

I wouldn't say a word. I'd probably cross the street

I am with humph. sadly, 'parents' who behave like this are usually volatile against anyone stepping in to their business no matter where they air their dirty laundry. they probably have a gun on them anyway. just isn't worth it.
a colleague at my school [before I started there] lost her life because she redirected a student from the school while at a local store. his father was there along with the father's brother and neither of them were watching the child who was running around and just being dangerous. story goes... she was at the store with another colleague and she redirected the child [idk if it was a student of hers or not but he was a student at our school]. the kid behaved himself but his father and uncle didn't like her interfering one little bit. I don't think she said anything to further upset the father/uncle but they still took it too personally and they followed her home [she didn't notice] and then returned later to kill her in her bathtub [where she was found].
sooo… john quinones and his see something say something can kiss my ass. the child you tried to save wont remember you.

I once saw this woman going into a liquor store and her son was in the car and she was really pissed. The son was joking around and when she came out and was going back to the car the boy was crying, "mommy, please dont." I have no idea what was happening--the kid was upset and the mother was too and buying alcohol didn't paint a nice picture, but since the kid was joking around beforehand, I assume maybe he was just being bratty in response to the mother threatening to punish him in some way. Not enough information to go by but not a charming domestic situation.

Catman would not interfere for just yelling.
But if the parent did hit the child, Catman would call the cops.
