You might be familiar with the children's game "Simon Says." There was (probably still is) an electronic toy called Simon Says that had four different colored lights in a circle and a different tone for each light. The toy would play a sequence of lights with their tones and the object of the game was for the humans to play the same sequence by pushing the light's buttons.
Before that there was the game without any electronic apparatus where a "leader" would instruct the players to perform some motion like "Simon says put your hand on your head" or "Simon says stand on one leg, your right" and the object of the game was to follow that instruction unless the leader omitted the phrase "Simon says." If leader said "squat down" without saying "Simon says" squat down then the people who follow that instruction were "out" because Simon didn't say. The winner would be the last person left after several attempts to trick the players.
The reason I mention these games on a Religion, Faith and Spirituality discussion board is that the Bible has sections that some people notice "Simon didn't say." In the books of Jeremiah and Isaiah the author clearly mentions receiving the word of the Lord. In the book of Ecclesiastes the author does not. He rather says that he pondered the things he writes about in his own heart. Similarly in the New Testament Mark and Luke are not apostles.
The reason I mention this today is that there are people who follow orders and then there are people who have little choice but to follow orders because they have little or no skill for independent thought or articulate speech. Such people depend very much on authority for their opinions, decisions and actions. It can be amazing how well everything works out where people just do what they are told. I mentioned Midwest City, Oklahoma as a particularly nice place to live. It consists mostly of people from the very large Air Force base it borders. I once lived in Del City which borders Midwest City. It is also a very nice place to live, but with huge churches.
Things can however go terribly wrong when the people who have no choice but to follow authority attach themselves to the wrong "authorities." Not only do they do things Simon didn't say, but they expect others to do them too or face consequences.
You might think that more Trump supporters are people who believe in a god than people in the general population are. It is probably more accurate to say that many Trump supporters believe in doing what they are told. That is not always the same thing as believing in a god. That can happen when people who have little or no skill for independent thinking and articulate speech attach themselves to the wrong "authorities."
So here we are. The question is whether they will figure out what Simon actually says before they do any permanent damage.
There are people who are doomed not to know what the truth about intelligent design is until some authority they recognize tells them. At the moment the only authority they recognize is the court. The court is in need of correction, but they don't know that. They won't until it is corrected.
