Every box office expert had this opening at 20 - 25 million and in a close race with Mission Impossible for no.1 Love how unpredictable predicting box office can still be.

It’s Statham fighting a giant shark and the only other genre movie coming out is Slenderman.

I just came back from this, and I loved it. Great effects, lots of shark action. I was expecting to hope Statham gets eaten, but his character was actually likable. It wasn't at all realistic, and I know some people will nit-pick the impossible scenes, but that was part of the fun for me.

I also saw it today and loved it. It was a great popcorn action/adventure film. Statham was fine and the supporting cast was great. Even the little girl was that rare sort of child actor that isn't annoying. There was just the right amount of humor and thrills.
If you go to see it, don't dissect it, just enjoy it.

I just posted the same thing about the kid on another board. Normally the kid character is overly cutesy or wise-ass, but she was cute in this. I was pleased with character development. I found them all likable. Even Rainn Wilson's character wasn't the stereotypical billioinaire villain. I went in expecting zero from the dialogue and left pleasantly surprised. I am actually hoping for a sequel.

I wasn't planning on watching this but the money its made and generally positive audience word of mouth will make me go see it.

People are gonna be disappointed.
It wasn't really bad but the pacing wasn't top notch. It should have been one long adrenaline rush and it wasn't.

Solidly entertaining, The audience I saw it with sure seemed to enjoy it from their reactions. And they absolutely loved the young girl. On a side note, the lead actress Bingbing Li was born in 1973! She's age appropriate for me to drool over.
