The worst thing about Death, whether you think there's anything after or not, is the pain and suffering of it. If you're lucky enough to die in your sleep or under heavy sedation, it's still nice to know it's your last night, and you can state your last words, make your last plans.

If you foresee a torturous death, it's better than not knowing how long the pain and suffering will last. Think of when you have a harsh job. When it seems it may never end, that is when it hurts most. One likes to make a "countdown". "Eleven...ten..." on down to zero. You never have to be afraid of torture, because you know when it will end.
