First off, I thought it was just so cute film, but does anyone have problem with the ending? The ending revealed that they are actually neighbors, but never met or saw accidentally? I wouldn't say it ruined the movie, but it's still a bit strange.

Paul Fejos the director also made documentaries became a prominent anthropologist, he based his film Lonesome on a newspaper article about loneliness in the modern American cities. I have no problem with the ending... It is very much a big city thing a sad reality for many lonely city souls, to not know their neighbours. Jim or Mary may have just recently moved into that boarding house ? It is quite possible that they may have glanced over one another riding on the bus?, as you do on the way to work. but ultimately it is an engaging & sincere fairy tale romance created within the magical realm of cinematic art.
