It's the Boxer for me along with mutts...
My mom had an Afghan Hound that was almost incredibly human in the way she responded to people in general.

West Highland Terriers, all the way! From womb to tomb! Westies are pure joy, lightness of spirit personified. For me, Westies are everything that is happy and cheerful and carefree and innocent in the world. They are so cute it's practically felonious. Westies could have taken down the Germans, the Japanese and the Italians with nary a glance, a lick or a lift of the paw.
"Oh, sweet, adorable, precious Westie! You have me under your spell!"

I love a mutt, because they tend to be healthier than their pedigree brethren. In fact, I don't think I'll ever own another pedigree again after what I'm going through with my Eskimo. That said, there are some breeds I just love. Huskies/Malamutes. I love their look, and their hard working nature. I love the way they howl. My neighbors have two white ones, and they're amazing. You need property to own one of them though, and they need A LOT of exercise. One breed I might consider getting in the future is a Blood Hound. I'd love to have a certified man tracker that could help find missing people. They're also very gentle and great with kids. Pugs are so fun! My other dog is half pug/dachsund. They have so many health problems though, I wouldn't own a pure bred, though I love them! Shih Tzus look like ewoks when they're groomed! We had 2 Alaskan malamutes growing up. They were really more my parents' dogs than they were for us kids. The first one was humongous. He'd weighed 212 pounds when he died and it was all muscle. There is a picture of my sister and me (we must have been 2 and 3 years old) riding him like he was a horse. Everybody in the neighborhood was terrified of him. Yikes.

One time my aunt was babysitting me when I was about 6 months old. (Obviously I don't remember this, just one of those family baby stories that everyone has a few of) and it was just me, Aunt Lynn and Pepper. And Pepper did not know Aunt Lynn hardly at all and he would not let her get near me! I do believe he growled and bare his teeth and, he could absolutely intimidate. (The only person in our family that he showed real affection towards my mom, I guessed he sensed she needed it the most) Anyway, my aunt was terrified and was held at bay for about two hours. He did not hurt her or attempt to hurt her, but he wasn't going to let anybody besides my parents and him get anywhere near me. So, I guess that's sweet.

I know these are a controversial breed, but I love Pitties. I had one in my family, and she was a great dog.
