In this thread we should discuss football from mainland Europe. I will try to update the thread regularly by picking best potential matches from France, Portugal, Italy, Germany and Spain on every weekend.
Love him or hate him but CR7 is one of the biggest names in history of football and he played very important role in Real Madrid winning their European titles. But things have changed this season and I believe most of us will be happy that Real Madrid will probably not win CL this year. La Liga and Serie A starts this weekend. I believe things are going to be a bit different this season for my side Juventus. My all-time fav goalkeeper and one of my all-time fav player Gianluigi Buffon will not be with us after being with us for almost 2 decades including during our suspension. I am not a fan of CR7 and don't know how to feel good about his inclusion.
Matches to look forward to this weekend Lazio vs Napoli (Saturday)
Torino vs Roma (Sunday)
Don't see any big games in France, Spain and Portugal this weekend.

Good thread. I'll be interested in following Ronaldo's exploits in Italy this season. I was also eager to track Mbappe in the Ligue 1 opener but the French World Cup stars didn't play for PSG as they had returned to training rather late.

He played his first game in a Juventus shirt yesterday. Not a league match but the annual jolly versus the Juve B side. Photos and video here : www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/45162781 Can't see why German football can't be discussed here, though. The other thread is good but I don't have the excellent knowledge that Mandragora has and this thread could be useful for general German football comments.

Good thread. I'll be interested in following Ronaldo's exploits in Italy this season. I was also eager to track Mbappe in the Ligue 1 opener but the French World Cup stars didn't play for PSG as they had returned to training rather late. It's interesting that Mbappe scored 26 goals in Monaco's winning season in 2017 and PSG were able to immediately grab him after that season. French Ligue has the potential to be very interesting (because of so much of talent in French football) but unfortunately PSG's dominance makes it very predictable. Will surely love to see how PSG do with their talent in CL this year. I don't know where my loyalty will lie. Hated CR7 and PSG but now my fav player is at PSG and my fav club has CR7. Boy, if CR7 wins CL this year and Real Madrid see a bad defeat then Messi's legacy ahead of CR7 may be questionable.

Thanks for that link, Stags. yeah, I guess we can have simple discussion of German matches in this thread too. Indeed I feel not able to add much in the other thread because the level of knowledge of posters in that thread is significantly greater than me.

I'll keep an eye on Tuchel at PSG this season. Apparently he's already imposed strict rules and put Verratti on a low carb diet They still seem to get along very well.

Lazio - Napoli should be a good one. Lazio were top-scorers in Serie A last season and Napoli are usually good to watch.
I'm pleased to see Parma back in the top-flight again. Except of course I won't see them as BT have lost coverage of Serie A to Eleven Sports.

Newly-promoted Reims made it two wins from two on Friday. Having beaten Nice last week, they beat Lyon 1 - 0. Had to withstand a bit of pressure in the second half but an impressive start to the season for the new boys.

Had to withstand a bit of pressure in the second half but an impressive start to the season for the new boys. Both Lyon and Nice are above average teams so a pretty good start to Reims. Tonight I will finally see a full game after wc final. Lazio vs Napoli.

I envy you watching the Lazio - Napoli match.
It will be interesting to see how Napoli play with Ancelotti at the helm.
3 - 2 to Lazio is my prediction

I'll follow this, but will likely lose interest once the group stage ends and it's the usual suspects in the final 16 again.

I was also eager to track Mbappe in the Ligue 1 opener but the French World Cup stars didn't play for PSG as they had returned to training rather late. PSG just equalised 1-1 against Guingamp. Mbappe didn't start but he has come on as a substitute.
Neymar was fouled and got and converted penalty. Foul was legit but it was still interesting to see Neymar's painful facial expression.
Mbaape looking good and he has been a few minutes only. PSG putting some real pressure.

I'll follow this, but will likely lose interest once the group stage ends and it's the usual suspects in the final 16 again. I meant the individual leagues of these countries not the champions league. But yeah most of these leagues will have obvious champions. Juventus in Italy, PSG in France, Bayern Munich in Germany, Porto or Benfica in Portugal. Probably Barcelona in Spain.

C'mon Guingamp! 1 - 1 Paris SG Been watching the match since 51st minute. relentless pressure from PSG. Guingamp are lucky not to concede more.
But the commentator said PSG were pretty bad in the first half. let's hope Guingamp can hold off or get a winner.

Another one by Mbappe. This one was excellent. So he is indeed going to be the best.
PSG 3 to home side 1.
