I'm blocked.
While I can agree with the premise, it's kinda flawed by timeline.
The Crusades were an example of Muslims & Catholics behaving poorly.
It would make more sense to concentrate on what's going on now. For example, theophobiacs routinely bring up gay people getting killed in Africa so that could work as an example.

George Santayana: Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. This famous statement has produced many paraphrases and variants:
Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Those who do not remember their past are condemned to repeat their mistakes. Those who do not read history are doomed to repeat it. Those who fail to learn from the mistakes of their predecessors are destined to repeat them. Those who do not know history's mistakes are doomed to repeat them.

It isn't "religious" extremism. The objective look at History shows it is anti-religious extremism. Obama placates the materialists here, like all presidents have to do.
"Both faiths have the capacity to be exploited by EXTREMISTS".
Not "Moslems", not "Christians", exploited by "extremists".
Neither faith sanctions inhumane extremism.
"Extremists", by definition, are invaders intent on hostile takeover and sabotage of the religions.
Ergo, extremists are enemies of Islam and Christianity. They always have been. They are demon possessed fools who think there is some evil force rewarding them for evil. Even materialists believe this in their spirit, though they're so blind they can't see it.
Even after the Nicene Council, Christians were still being persecuted for the most part. Constantine was not a Christian by technical definition. He sacrificed to all the gods. He would have a two dollar win ticket on every horse in the race. He wanted to play it safe. It wasn't until the papacy became a real "estate" that it began in extremist evil, and if one reads THE HISTORY OF THE POPES, there is no denying that it was infiltrated by non Christians, one who would the Devil, almost all of whom would allow the Bible to be read by people, and the proof goes on and on.
Even today, when a group of people are attacked by so called "Islamic extremists" who kill the Christians and begin looting, the surviving Moslems in the group run for their lives during the looting, because the extremists aren't Moslem, but materialists who want to be justified in their acts, and are trying to think of reasons to kill the Moslems as well, in order to loot them. This has been reported, but quickly put under the carpet by who want to rewrite History in order to rationalize their prejudice and narrow minded scope.
Those who believe it is "religious extremism" are doomed to repeat History, because they actually choose to ignore the facts. Those who don't know History are doomed to repeat it. Those who know it, and want to deny it, are retarded. Obama has shown that he doesn't believe this, because he has avoided blaming extremism on religion. He could have phrased it better, however.
But don't get me wrong. I could just as easily be fooled. The demons and devils out there work on all of us. The definition of a retard is "someone who is too self righteous to admit there are forces of evil at work on everyone in the world".

"The belief in a supernatural source of evil is not necessary. Men alone are quite capable of every wickedness."
Joseph Conrad
