I have been praying it everyday since about Aug 21st 2013 with rare misses I don't make up for. so nearly 6 years now. but I think prayer is one thing many Christians neglect in general as many seem to have the attitude that regular prayer is optional even when it's not. it's required if one is going to grow closer to God. plus, without prayer... good luck on resisting the worlds temptations etc. basically, as the OP already knows, prayer gives us grace from God to live a more holy life and makes it easier for us to resist giving into the temptation to sin. trust me, it works. it cut out a certain sin I just assumed was impossible to escape... the 3rd promise of the rosary says... "The Rosary shall be a powerful armor against Hell, it will destroy vice, decrease sin, and defeat heresies." ; that's exactly what happened for me after 2.5-3 months of praying it every single day it just stopped cold turkey. but in general... a lot of what I pray for I won't be able to see the results. but after that occurred I just assume it's working. but it comes back to faith. for some it seems to boils down to this... "To one who has faith, no explanation is necessary. To one without faith, no explanation is possible." - St. Thomas Aquinas p.s. basically... I was away from the Catholic church for about 12 years or so. from about 20 years old (roughly 1999-2000) til late 2012 (I would have been 32-33 years old in late 2012) (but even back-in-the-day when I was going to weekly Mass I rarely prayed etc). basically a dirt bike accident on July 20th 2012 (with no helmet on), while it turned out to be the worst thing that happened to me(i.e. quite a bit of suffering due to severe concussion etc(I don't even remember the accident as the next thing I knew I was awake the next day in hospital (even though I was apparently awake a good portion of the time but they said I was not really there) then about 6 weeks later the concussion symptoms set in which is when things really started to suck and lasted a long time etc)), it ultimately turned me back to God. so while it sucked, I basically see it as God's way of smacking me with a 2x4 to turn me back onto the right path that leads to eternal life. it looks like it worked though ; so as you can see it took a while (about a year) with the suffering etc before I finally made my way to the Rosary as before I started the Rosary I was praying some and then slowly worked into it. but some might be turned off from The Rosary as it takes a while to say as while some claim it's only 15min I think it's more like around 30min-ish (easily 20min+). I usually take more than 30min (roughly 40-50min give or take) but I say additional prayers. but even if one finds praying to be a bit of a chore, one can spend at least 5 minutes a day in prayer as it's a good starting point. gotta give God something to work with

So sorry to hear about your accident. I am very happy that you have returned to GOD. I also left the church for a while.

Two hands working do more than a thousand clasped in prayer. Madalyn Murray O'Hair And yet, these thousands of hands that had been clasped in prayer will do tonnes of great work, after becoming refreshed by their prayers.

I hated when for penance for my confession, I had to say the rosary.
That's an additional complaint about catholicism. The stations of the cross rank high also.

And yet, these thousands of hands that had been clasped in prayer will do tonnes of great work, after becoming refreshed by their prayers. Try a cappuccino. Cappuccinos are really nice. They're from Italy. Italians are predominantly Catholic, hence the cappuccino was made by people whose hands were clasped in the prayers of the Holy Rosary.

them1ghtyhumph I understand for some people prayer can be a real chore. but The Holy Rosary is spiritual gold but many don't see it. basically they say The Holy Rosary is the highest form of personal prayer there is and I tend to agree but one can't look at prayer as trying it a handful of times and when things don't instantly get better, they just give up. one should view prayer as a slow to very slow accent towards God that works slowly over a period of time, like look at it in terms of months/years/decades. plus, there are going to be times when you pray and you feel consolations etc and other times it's a chore, but you got to keep on going regardless of all of that. bottom line... The Holy Rosary (and general prayer) is more beneficial than it seems like it is ; I realize this requires some faith and all as not everything we pray for we get (I don't usually pray too much for myself anyways) and I would assume a lot of it's benefits are sort of a 'behind-the-scenes' sort of thing in that we can't always see the benefits but, rest assured, God's using them for someones benefit be yourself or some random stranger etc p.s. after confession... I typical have something minor for penance but I usually will do a additional rosary on top of what they say as sort of a thanks to God @eddyhops Well technically, one is not required to pray The Holy Rosary daily so I am totally in the clear missing one here and there. it's just wise to pray it daily but like I was basically saying, some level of regular prayer (as in daily prayer) is required if one is going to grow closer to God and avoid sin etc. that's one area I think a lot of people who claim to be Christian ignore (but usually these types only have a basic belief in God but that's about as far as it goes which is simply not enough(I am not trying to dis these people but you get the gist)) which is critical and it's not asking for much for say even 5 minutes of prayer each day as no one is THAT busy to where they can't spare at least that much. basically I am sure all of the saints would agree that without prayer, you got basically ZERO chance at being a saint because you could sort of equate it to oxygen for the lungs as prayer is for the soul. I am not saying I will be a saint, as playing the odds, it's slim for me, but you get the gist but anyways to give you a answer to your question... No. but... it's not surprising because missing a day or two here and there it's not going to have any noticeable negative effect but if I suddenly just stopped prayer all together, I am sure I would notice that as the months/years/decades pass as I would likely start to become more worldly and more susceptible to sin etc. basically prayer works slowly over a period of time as it's not something that's instant, generally speaking. Rodney Farber Only someone without faith would say that. sure, people still need to physically do stuff when they can to help others and all but prayer is much more effective than the common Christian would give it credit for. but before I go, ill add this... The Holy Rosary is tied to the Battle of Lepanto from Oct 7th 1571... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Lepanto ( catholicinsight.com/islam-the-rosary-and-the-battle-of-lepanto/ etc) ; a little quote "The Holy League credited the victory to the Virgin Mary, whose intercession with God they had implored for victory through the use of the Rosary."
