This is a uniquely American thing. Whenever people from other countries visit the US, they are all astonished at how prevalent medication advertisements are here. It's also capitalism at its finest and most disgusting. This hemorrhoid cream will cure your hemorrhoids , but it will also destroy everything you love. Pay us money ( and we expressly disclaim any liability resulting from your ensuing decades-long depression)! My favorite line in all these commercials is "do not take protecia if you're allergic to protecia" So, do you're saying if I'm allergic to the meds, I should not take them? Good to know, good to know. Also where a side affect is something that is literally what the drug is supposed to fix: "Side affects for Dictionerection are nausea, sleepiness and erectile disfunction..." Or any of the lines that begin "Inform your doctor if..." I've heard in different commercials both of these: "Inform your doctor if you are HIV positive" and "Inform your doctor if you have cancer." These are things that usually appear in your chart. I expect soon to hear, "Inform your doctor if you're dead."

Any of the commercials that sell you medication. Shouldn't your doctor be telling you about what medication you need? What patient is going "but doc, I saw these meds on TV I should be taking" and the doctor's going "geesh, tell me more about this..." This is a uniquely American thing. Whenever people from other countries visit the US, they are all astonished at how prevalent medication advertisements are here. It's also capitalism at its finest and most disgusting. The medicine commercials have gotten far more aggressive and prevalent in recent years with the age of TV viewership getting older and older. You see the medication ads mostly during the morning and evening news because apparently only old people watch those and they are the prime target for meds. Pharmaceuticals make up a huge portion of TV commercials, more than ever since younger people watch broadcast TV less and less, and I believe they make up a much smaller portion of ad sales in every avenue other than TV.

Good to know, good to know. Don't underestimate stupidity. I forget the exact meme I saw recently, but it was something to the effect of: "Don't pretend our generation is smarter than the last. Last generation had car manuals that described how to make repairs. Today's car manual instructs you not to drink the washer fluid."

Good to know, good to know. Don't underestimate stupidity. If you look at the little booklet you get with a Zippo lighter, it advises you
"Extinguish lighter before returning to your pocket"
Putting a lit lighter in your pocket can be gobs of fun

"Hi, I'm James Arnold and i'm hear to tell you about American Life Colonial life Insurance." I want to punch these guys in the face. They remind me of the infomercials they show in the dentist office while you're waiting in the lobby.

There's one now with the guy who played Lloyd Braun the second time on Seinfeld who slinging insurance for AARP (I think)... he does that shit that you said, and then there's a scene with him in the car with some old dude and they are casually talking about how much they love this insurance company, as people always do, and after the guy makes some comment about how they helped him Lloyd Braun replies, "Yeah, you know, they're just so caring." That's one of the lamest moments ever in any commercial.

Does anyone else see these Cambridge Paving Stone commercials? Is this just a tri-state area thing? Those are so fucking lame. This guy thinks we wanna get involved in caring about his family and stuff... dude.. you sell patio stones. Nobody gives a shit about your sons or anything.
And then there are these Renewal by Anderson commercials that are so lame and try to make it seem like it's part of a morning news show. They sell windows and they think they are fooling people into thinking that the news is in the habit of interviewing window installers about why their business is better than other window companies.
But this one also might not have any reach outside of the tri-state area. Local commercials aren't quite as fun to rip on.

Your doctor is typically on the take from the pharmaceutical drug reps who come in and blitz them with glossy presentations and freebies.

Humana ad right now has old women complaining about "another commercial with farmer's markets?" and how insurers "see all of us as alike." So she goes full anarchist and takes control by ... turning off the TV.

Bad advertising works the opposite on me - I will never use their product. For example - I will never, ever buy a Chevy after those commercials with the people who are amazed at everyting about Chevy. The worst campaign in history. So ridiculously insulting, they've burned me from ever buying a Chevy. If Chevy became the only car left, I'd start taking the bus places.

This Melissa McCarthy Booking.com spot playing before every YouTube video is really starting to annoy me. Haven't seen this, and I won't hit play. The one I see on TV fucking ALL THE TIME is this shit: Absolutely horrific in every way. I could do a lengthy dissertation on every aspect of the horror of this ad, but I won't subject everyone to it. Just know that this is blight on humanity and it must be stopped. Those Jardiance commercials should be banned from television! Along with the Ozempic commercials.

This!… has got to be one of the stupidest and most annoying commercials on television today!
“Call 877-sell easy” - full of singing and dancing geriatrics with smiles painted on their faces. Mindlessly ready to sell away their life insurance policies as if its going to make them rich and carefree in their retirement years.
Where do you begin with how stupid and annoying this commercial is!?!

I know freedom for giant corporations to sell their drugs and alcohol is very important to some people, but it is kind of a shame that pharmaceuticals and alcohol commercials restrictions were lifted and then so quickly taken advantage of and became so quickly ubiquitous. That happened in my lifetime, early in my lifetime, but still seems like such a drastic and bad step in the wrong direction... if for no other reason, just that they tend to be the most annoying commercials out there. "Your doctor is typically on the take from the pharmaceutical drug reps who come in and blitz them with glossy presentations and freebies." Well, that's a very cynical view of your doctor. There are good ones that are not swayed or 'on the take,' and there are now some restrictions on what drug reps can do or give, but it's definitely true that drug reps try to win over doctors free stuff. It's their entire M.O.

Does anybody else see these fucking 'Temu' commercials before every God damn video online? I see them fucking incessantly. It's brutal. There's one in particular that's extra annoying with a horrible song that I can't seem to avoid.
I know we all get different targeted ads, but for the life of me I can't understand why this one company won't leave me alone. I'll never use their service, ever.
I get a lot of targeted ads that I don't really understand. I opt out of every cookie or tracker or 'ad-sense' thing, or pretty much anything I ever have a choice of opting out of, so some of it is just random I guess... but the stuff they think I'll be interested in is so off the mark sometimes.. it's odd.

Why they think that'll work on them, I have no idea

I really, REALLY hold a grudge against bad advertising. But most people don't, I guess, and the first hurdle in advertising is brand awareness. A lot of these terrible commercials are for things that we may not have known by name otherwise, and they consider that a win. And I'm ashamed to say that my car insurance company has terrible, terrible commercials...

Good to know, good to know. Don't underestimate stupidity. It's sad. They have to put that on there because some idiot ate the wrapper. It's like at my firm, when we hire new employees and I'm onboarding them and I tell them "you cannot wear pajamas to work." They're completely baffled that I'm telling them that because it's seems like a no brainer but I tell them because we had one moron who would come to work in pajamas. This in an Engineering firm. Pajamas. Yes, people are idiots.
