Probably feels and sounds more natural than an abrupt ending in most cases. There are exceptions of course:

I prefer an actual ending myself compared to a fading out.

I don't mind fade outs, I just thought it was laziness or something.

I enjoy the fade-outs because I like to think that somewhere they're still jammin'.
Walter Becker starts the fade-out jam at 3:20.
