To answer the OQ, because there is no such thing as a racist. It is just a word. Well this fella sounded like a real card.

It's like they hate a 'race', yet are appalled at being labeled 'racist'. I've literally had acquaintances say "I'm not racist, I just don't want no n****r dating my daughter" It’s because you can’t be a racist without being a moronic asshole.

Here's the way I see that history has played out: We got rid of the most overt forms of racism like slavery and segregation. Then, we had many years of lessons on how the above was racist, and how that racism was evil/wrong, and everyone took it to heart. Then, we had all these people who still had the same thoughts/feelings, but no longer felt justified in thinking/believing them and, not wanting to think themselves evil/wrong, they convinced themselves that, because they weren't advocating for slavery/segregation (which, again, were the most popular ways in which racism has been portrayed), they weren't racists--so a combination of cognitive dissonance combined with some careful word filtering/parsing. This has basically lead to an entire generation--maybe more, by now--who have no clue about how racism works and exists in the modern world, and are thus utterly ignorant and blind ever time the issue comes up, and can convince themselves that nothing less than slavery and advocating for segregation (or outright stating other races are inferior) is racist. Welcome to the wonders of fucked up human cognition. In modern society 'racism' is just the new word for the original sociological term 'tribalism', which in itself was a protective mechanism in evolution for different social groups of people to survive and become more civilised, maintaining the power and property as a group. To the modern Western ear, the word tribalism sounds so primitive, that we now use the word 'racist'. It is still the same primeval and vestigial social mechanism for protecting the tribe/society against rape pillaging and mixing of DNA. Basically 'them' vs 'us'.

Essentially yes, but I'd still say racism is a very specific kind of tribalism. I mean, if it was just tribalism, Americans should be more xenophobic about whites from the UK than blacks from the US, but that doesn't seem to be the way it works. Either that, or we tend to associate races with "our tribe" more than where people are actually from, which also doesn't make sense.

Should your remark be sent to the "non-sequiturs" thread or would you like to attribute some relevance to it? I think I know what you mean but why not share it with all of us? Who and/or what is a "card"? Please share your enlightenment. My fault for posting in this stupid thread.

Well, why don't you Martians all go back to where you come from? And another thing, when we colonize Mars, don't whine about us bringing our germs there when you can't handle the disease. And don't give us your cooties. Y'all can't even make a space ship that don't look like a saucer. And don't try to be Earth citizens, cause it don't make sense to make photo IDs of y'all. Just like your saucers, y'all look alike any way.

Going along with the tribalism theme is conservatism’s embrace of white male supremacy and their almost hysterical effort to defend/deny it even while blatantly practicing it. One of their tactics is try to define racism for everybody else. In studying this phenomenon I have become amazed at how white people continue to tell people who have actually suffered racial discrimination what is racist and what is not. White guys dressed up in the most ridiculous movie Native American costumes try to explain – at the Washington D.C. NFL football team games – that they are honoring Native Americans. White people also continue to say things like, “I don’t see what’s so racist about [maybe “Song of the South” or something like that]. One thing I have learned over the decades is to trust the people – whether Native American, African-America, Asian, or whoever – who have lived with racism (e.g. been told to go back to their own countries, like our racist president said to four Representatives) to tell US – white people – what is or is not racist. The second thing conservatives do is to try to normalize White Supremacy, to make it just another allowable point of view to be discussed. If they do get called out for what they are, they start whining about how THEY – the Supremacist – are being persecuted. As an example, here is a meme that was sent to me by a right-wing joik off just a couple of days ago. It both tries to make their own evil actions as reasonable propositions and bellyaches about mean-ol’ lib, ruls who just pick on them something awful.

CONS are so full of white rage that they become almost incoherent, they are reduced to "I'm not hysterical; YOU'RE hysterical." I know you are but what am I? You can almost feel the spittle hitting your face.

It's like they hate a 'race', yet are appalled at being labeled 'racist'. I've literally had acquaintances say "I'm not racist, I just don't want no n****r dating my daughter" I don't know but I know how much it hurts. I've been called the 'n' word twice and I remember how humiliated I felt and just wished the ground would swallow me up. (I was in my teens then)

The term is so watered down in America it's practically meaningless. Never mind trying to distinguish between the 'good racism' in America and the 'bad racism'. To the rest of the world racism is racism. In America they think you can fight racism with more racism!!
It's a strategy that has been a disaster. The more people focus on their race, the more racial tribalism you get and you can't have racism without racial tribalism.
I get it, calling other people racist makes you feel virtuous... but it's an empty illusion of virtue.

One issue is the use of the term racist doesn't really differentiate. Call a person racist and are we talking about a hateful and violent person? Someone who tells stupid jokes? A sheltered person from the suburbs who is ignorant and doesn't realize the realities others face?

Please... provide one example that can evidence this horseshit assumption of yours. You've just proven you're the fuckin' retard everyone knows you to be. Racism, by definition, is literally the belief that one's 'race' is superior/better/genetically more advanced than another's... that's literally what I believe racism to be... there are those that literally believe this... ... what do you literally refer to those people as, shitstain?
