You are at the grocery store and all you have is a bottle of milk and a bag of carrots. There is no "express line" open so you just go to the nearest checker. The lady on line ahead of you, who seems to be stocking up for winter, lets you check out first.
It's a small kindness and it's appreciated when it happens and returned when opportunity presents itself.

Or when you're waiting to enter heavy traffic and someone who has the right-of-way gives way and waves you in ahead of them.
They don't have to, but they do it anyway.
It may not make any difference to the overall length of their journey, but it's still a kind gesture.

Well, one good thing that I get to see almost every time I travel on tram is when a mother with her baby in a baby stroller is trying to get inside the tram. Many people offer help and also leave space for mother & baby. I also see many people give their seats to elders (not just the reserved seats). These things really please me.

I don't know what this is called in English but it's very common in Nordic countries and maybe many more under different names. You mix your own candy to your own delight. I've helped many old Swedes getting their weekend mixes of candy, even my 95 y/o neighbour had to sneak out after his nurses was on a break. I asked him won't she notice, he said I hide it in my old piano "I just pretend I don't feel like playing today"

teleadm We have those candy stores too... mostly in the bigger shopping malls. Decisions, decisions ! Brings to mind "helping" People in stores. People have helped me to get things from the back of upper shelves. One lady even had her smallish boy climb up the shelves to fetch the last bag of popcorn for me. I must look like I work in all sorts of stores, people ask me all of the time where thing are. Occasionally, I even know and can tell them!

People often offer help when they see Catwoman trying to get into or out of the car.

The area where I live now is pretty friendly. Each day I see far more little acts of kindness such as those already mentioned. I guess we tend to remember the negative things more.
I once lived in the Wash. DC sprawl. Driving around in that area seemed to be "every man for himself."

Sulla RE: City driving is a whole 'nuther world. A driver NOT cutting you off with no signal is an act of kindness !

Everyone has seen the kid that has been separated from his family in a store and how people will go and talk to him and get the attention of a store member to alert the parents that the kid has been found.
I saw an instance that was perhaps even kinder.
A gentleman... not THAT old was standing in the aisle of a SUPER Wal-Mart and looking rather bewildered and lost and apparently about to become upset. Another man noticed this, quietly started talking to him and walked with him up to the service desk where his family was alerted and they were re-united. Kindness to a stranger !

Leaving change in the charity donation box. Pretending to laugh at jokes that you don't really find funny. Accepting people's answer the first time they give it to you instead of nagging them like a pushy cunt. Doing any favor without drawing attention to it and/or asking anything in return.

The clerk refusing your nickel and taking a couple of pennies out of the penny dish instead of giving you three pennies change. The people who put those pennies IN the penny dish !
