I've never been a fan of Natalie Portman. She is undeniably beautiful but I think lacking as an actress. I do think she gives her best performance in Jackie, though, and I have no problem with her Oscar nomination now that I've seen it. It's not a great film. It is very nicely produced. I think some of the supporting actors are quite good (I didn't even recognize John Hurt or his usually instantly recognizable voice). The score is irritating and bad. But it does provide insight into one of the more shocking events of the 20th century from her unique POV. I don't know how the real Jackie Kennedy spoke so I had nothing to compare Natalie to but I did feel she was too mannered at times, trying to maybe mimic the real Jackie? It's an effective performance and there is one scene she nails perfectly. An hour into the film I would have given it a 5/10 overall but the last half hour raises it up to a 7/10. Some shocking scenes when JFK is shot surprised me.

I was really looking forward to this. The teaser looked amazing. And Portman's so good in this too. But it really wasn't that interesting. 5/10 because of Portman, its visual style, and there were moments I thought it'd come to life. But it never really did.
