I love it how thefleetsin attracts right-wing trolls who, in the Admin thread in their hateful attacks on decency, come dangerously close to defending pedophile priests with stupid statements like “Catholic priests are no more likely to be child molesters than any other profession.” lol. Let’s test that by taking a look at the second most hated profession after priests – cops. Sure, at their best they are people at the emotional level of a public school hallway bully and at their worst are a violent street gang, but you got to give it to’em that they don’t, as a rule, sexually molest young children. They may arrest a 5th grader for fighting back against a bully, handcuff him, and take him to jail (that really happened recently), but they didn’t bugger him. My own religious background is Protestant fundamentalism, specifically, Southern Baptist so I often target the likes of Franklin Graham, Liberty University, Jim Bakker, and the Southern Baptist Convention. (I “attack” them by posting things they have actually said and done. Conservatives hate that.) If thefleetsin has a beef about the Catholic Church, then this is the board to air it.
Now, way back in 1992 the Irish singer Sinead O’Connor unleashed a shit storm on herself when she publicly stated that the Catholic Church was rotten to its core and pedophile priests and their enablers were the real enemy. On Saturday Night Live, she ripped a picture of the then Pope, John Paul II, in half. Now we know she was absolutely right. Before Spotlight, before the worst of the American and Irish church scandals, O'Connor called it right and only got abuse in return. The enemy has become very obvious since then. The revelation that a Pennsylvania grand jury found that more than 1,000 children in six dioceses there had been molested by 300 Catholic priests over the past 70 years while successive church officials covered it up is truly shocking.
What would these same Trumpanzees be saying if the abuse had taken place in Islamic Mosques?
