Will Best Blockbuster Oscar category become more relevant to movie fans than the Best Picture?

Only if Black Panther wins every year in a row for the first decade.

The MTV Award has been around for 25 years and is still going strong.

The same folks who vote for the Best Picture will also be voting for Best Blockbuster so the legitimacy of that award will be equivalent to any other Oscar.

In all likelihood, the introduction of the Best Blockbuster Award will result in even more obscure artsy films getting the Best Picture nomination while all the best popular movies will vie for Best Blockbuster. In ten years, the Best Picture Oscar will be as eagerly anticipated as Best Documentary. Best Blockbuster will be king. Mark my words.

And still most nobody gives a shit about the MTV Awards.



The same folks also vote for categories such as Best Art Direction, Best Documentary, Best Makeup, Best Short Film, and Best Sound Editing, but no intelligent person would argue that those awards carry the same level of prestige as Best Picture.

Bret Hart's tagline was "I'm the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be." Similarly, Best Picture is the Academy's most prestigious award, has always been the Academy's most prestigious award, and will always be the Academy's most prestigious award.

"Disney's Most Popular Movie" will just be considered a consolation prize, like winning the 3rd-place game at the World Cup. No one will give a shit about "Disney's Most Popular Movie". Mark my words.
