At long last they've made the film that I expected to be made years ago, especially after the success of Mel Gibson's Braveheart. The story of The Bruce aka Robert, King of Scotland who led the Scots to victory at Bannockburn. This effort stars Chris Pine who together with director David Mackenzie, gave us the Oscar-nominated classic Hell or High Water of 2016. It has Stephen Dillane as Edward I aka The Hammer of the Scots but no one else in the cast of real note and that suggests a low budget production. Maybe they'll pull it off. I hope so because IMO Bruce was a much more interesting character than Wallace and in fact the nickname Braveheart was given to him not Mel Gibson's Scottish hero. In Sean Connery's heyday, I thought that he might make this film but he got Bonditis and a few years ago I wondered if Gerard Butler might go for ir but he's too busy saving the world from anybody/eveybody. The film is due for release in November

Just saw the trailer today, it looks incredible. Hopefully a much more accurate portrayal of the times, but then it would have to be. Don't get me wrong, I still love Braveheart. But it's as historically flawed as any period piece ever made.

Looks alright. In other hands I might be expecting Robin Hood: Prince of Thieve, but I loved Hell or High Water, so I'd have high hopes for this.

Yeah I've read up a lot on this subject, and while I have rewatched braveheart a fair amount recently, and I do think it's a legitimately great film actually, it's wildly inaccurate with history. Which is fine to some degree, but Robert the Bruce really got shafted in that film.

It's worth noting that there's another film about the same subject in the works starring the actor who played Robert the Bruce in Braveheart, as a sort of sequel to that film, but supposedly more historically accurate.
This one will likely be at a much higher budget and have a much larger profile.

Titled Robert the Bruce and starring Angus Macfadyen, it is being directed by Richard Gray, whose work is unknown to me. It has Jared Harris as John Comyn, Bruce's arch-enemy, so is probably dealing with their rivalry. Again the rest of the cast is unknown, so I am not too thrilled at the prospect. Besides MacFadyen is now in his mid-50s, hardly likely to impress a s a young warrior.

Arms and armor in this movie looks far better than in most other movies about medieval Europe, so I hope it'll be great also in other aspects.

Meh, can't say I'm that excited. Scottish history is a tad boring.

Leading man was the least good thing about "Hell or High Water". Bit of a glamour boy. I shall go and see it for no reason other than to see if they have included a "spider scene" and ....who plays the spider
