DC started with Superman and Batman. Then Professor Marston created Wonder Woman.
Filmation had a Shazam! TV show that was very popular among young boys. They wanted a female superhero TV show for young girls. So they created a brand new female superhero, Isis.
I don't get the hate for the idea of a female James Bond. I think that would be a fun idea to explore.
For Bond it's because he's such a masculine character in terms of stereotypes he likes a fight, likes a drink, loves beautiful women and fast cars ect, if you gender flip it an keep those same traits it's more like a parody, and if you change it to being a stereotype of womens behaviour it bears little to no resemblance to Bond so whats the point?
Better creating a new character who can have some similar traits but not all and can be the new 007 rather then simply making a Jane Bond.
As for Magneto & Xavier I don't think the gender flipping of Magneto & Xavier is that good either, for one both have kids they are unaware of, harder/impossible to do with female characters, plus given their set ages atleast for now you lose part of their chemistry if their both women, Magneto's mentality comes in part from his past as a holocaust survivor, as much as Charles delves into peoples minds he cant experience that like Magneto did, so Charles hope for fair treatment and respect for mutants isn't tainted by this, he's more an idealist who believes in equality, Magneto is a victim of persecution, racism and hatred and why he refuses to believe mutants would ever be treated with respect, you make them women and from the time they had to live through and both had to experience sexism, and how it lessened in the decades, so Magneto's outlook of things would never change seems ignorant, and Xavier would have suffered some form of persecution outside being a mutant also so he kind of loses that aspect of his personality, and if they did Michelle Yeoh then again she'd face racism so Magneto's sort of attitude of what does Charles no about persecution, because Charles as a white male of non jewish heritage and is passing as normal never felt humanities cruelty like he has and other mutants who cannot pass also have.
Unless they do it in a gender swapped universe so all the men are women and vice versa because then the treatment they receive would be reverse also, with men being the ones historically being treated as lesser being. but Yeoh still has the same issue for me in this situation.
Plus blokes being friends but enemies in a way they would fight but still care for one another more plausible, women not so much, we are thicker headed and more aggressive, women are more non-confrontational and a lot more catty.
